Fox News Caught Flat-Footed Again When Terrorists Hit Jakarta Hotels
July 16th 2009

Posted on 07/16/2009 9:20:37 PM PDT by Steelfish

Why is that only CNN is able to immediately bring video footage of internationally occurring events? As usual Fox News is caught flat-footed and keep running their regular programs.

If Micheal Jackson’s corpse would have been in the hotel, there would have been much better coverage on FNC...

Huh?

Is this according to YOU that FOX is “flat footed” ?

I suppose CNN is your favorite?

Because Fox is too busy playing re-runs of O’Reilly and Hannity for the 10,000th time.

I want to see the regular programs. You can see only so much devastation. They’ve been covering it, but not exclusively, and that’s the way I like it.

Because Fox News is my favorite it is pathetically disappointing that they have ceded monopoly coverage of news breaking events to CNN. Programming heads at Fox News need to roll.

When one cable outlet is showing breaking news of a terrorist attack and another is showing a rerun of a political talk show, I don't think that favoritism is the point.

Yeah, you mean the way CNN covered the Iranian protests? The Iranian people are not to happy with CNN, it took them about 4 days to start covering the protests in Iran and then only after there was a world wide question as to why they weren’t. CNN, the Communist News Network, all communist, all the time!

Blasts Hit Two Luxury Hotels in Jakarta, 9 Killed
Friday, July 17, 2009

JAKARTA, Indonesia — A pair of powerful explosions killed nine and wounded at least 50 people in an upscale Jakarta neighborhood Friday morning, sending debris and glass flying onto the streets.

Anti-terror forces were at the scenes of both blasts, but did not yet want to speculate about the possibility of an attack by militants.

“There were bodies on the ground, one of them had no stomach,” said a man who lives near the hotels and who arrived at the Marriott before emergency services. “It was terrible.”

...

The blasts were caused by “high explosives,” Security Minister Widodo Adi Sucipto told reporters at the scene, without elaborating. He said they exploded two minutes apart.

He said a New Zealander was among those killed, and that thirteen other foreigners were among the injured.

I agree...Fox is good when it comes to news analysis, but when it comes to up to the minute news, they are last.

I also agree, and we are big Fox News fans here.

Maybe FNC should have a separate channel (ie like CNN International) that is equipped to compete with CNN on worldwide breaking news like this. It does kind of reduce Fox News Channel's credibility as a hard "news channel" when events like this break and they just keep running reruns of their regular programming...

Exactly. Even during the Iranian demonstrations while CNN was running instant feed, Fox News was going on interminably with O’Reilly and Geraldo. This is no way to increase one’s viewing audience, reach, and influence. One has to go beyond attracting the converted. When there are major Islamic terror strikes, I say immediately ditch the O’Reilly tape and other regular programming.

Fox News since its inception has been the worst breaking news source on cable...they win hands down for extended and in-depth. They literally turn the lights out at 11...they also do not have the reach or the built in network yet as CNN does...they are expected to have nearly 90% match to CNN in available contractors and field reporters as well as available affiliates in 2013.

I live in Connecticut and admit that I like to watch Hannity at midnight if I miss the 9pm live show.

Fox News Channel really should have a separate channel that competes with CNN International or CNN's Headline News, IMO. Where they run worldwide news 24/7...

If they are in the U.S., THEN they are new worthy to me.

Terrorist attacks happen everyday around the world. I'm not indifferent but the U.S. is my priority and I care about our military. Our military is not likely to be staying at a Jakarta Hotel.

"Because Fox News is my favorite it is pathetically disappointing that they have ceded monopoly coverage of news breaking events to CNN. Programming heads at Fox News need to roll."

I couldn't agree more with you. Murdoch, for whatever reason, has decided to create a network of commentators and chattering heads, rather than a serious news-gathering organization. CNN, on the other hand, has at least endeavored to put news bureaus all over the world, and have become a world class news-gathering organization as a result. Unfortunately, that news is so damned biased, I don't care to watch it.

I can't stand CNN because of the bias, MSNBC isn't even worth mentioning, and FNC is "tabloidsh" and commentary-laced, it too has become unwatchable. Television news has been made practically worthless. And, if you can't cover the breaking news, you've become even more irrelevant.

Interesting. Do you think FNC might launch a separate international 24/7 news channel (based in the US) that would compete with CNN International?

I admit I like a lot of the programming currently running on Fox News, but you're right... they are the worst source on cable whenever news is breaking, especially overseas.

Of course they're right there if that breaking news is a car chase. In the U.S. During the day... ;-)
