A jeweler to the stars is one of the city's worst deadbeat dads -- and a wanted man for stiffing his ex-wife and son out of half a million dollars in court-ordered support.
Niraj Chaturvedi, a gem dealer who supplied baubles to Harry Winston and Fred Leighton jewelers, bolted for Allentown, Pa., after a Manhattan judge ruled he owed his family $8,500 a month since 2004.
Chaturvedi's total of $472,000 puts him in the rogue's gallery of New York's worst child-support deadbeats, authorities say.
Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Laura Drager found that Chaturvedi, 54, sabotaged his ex-wife's share of marital assets by letting their properties sink into foreclosure.
The India native also drove his own business into bankruptcy "just to spite her," says the wife's lawyer.
"We're on food stamps, and my ex-husband is living high on the hog," said Joan Chaturvedi, 57.
Her lawyer, Laurence Greenberg, said, "I'm going to hunt down this lowlife until justice is done.

He should be sold/rented/leased/slaved to a private company.
put him in jail as well as seize every identifiable asset.in this case that would be something of an answer to your question. of course when the deadbeat has no assets then theres little that can be done. Punative action however has to be severe to stop people from taking this course of action.
ALLENTOWN? why is he bolting for allentown PA?
But if the deadbeat has little or no assets then a warm bed and 3 squares a day isn't such a bad option. So, can you get life in prison for refusing to pay child support?
I don’t know if I’d say this guy is one of the worst deadbeat dads. It looks like the main reason he owes so much is that the judge ordered him to pay a lot. There are deadbeat dads who owe for a longer period of time than just since 2004, I am sure. And I am curious how much he’s paid in that period of time.
Not that I would defend him. I just point out that there are different measures of guilt, and by some measures, he’s not the worst.
whatever i might think, life is not an option. rather have the deadbeat working and paying taxes. if they refuse to work, then maybe back to jail.
Jail is somewhat more than 3 warms and a bed. and no,not saying they have t.v. too. its dangerous for anyone but more so for someone like in this case thats used to a soft life.
no extradition treaty? makes no sense to me either.
This story smells. The fact that there are always two sides to a story makes me wonder.
His business has failed, his property is in foreclosure, he’s already been to jail, and he “bolted” to Allentown(?) Sounds like he’s really living “high on the hog”.
Of course a female judge handled the matter (ever been to family court?). I wonder how much her outraged lawyer’s fees were....I bet they make the child support look like chump change.
Of course, he could be a total POS. Regardless, debtor’s prisons never work IMHO.
They should make him work farm labor and all earnings, less a small amount to cover his cot and bologna sandwich daily, sent to cover his debt.
If they forced labor with proceeds going to cover expenses for his child, he would find employment and back money owed pretty quickly.
