PennDOT has spent $60,000 to create large green road signs telling motorists that funding was secured by the federal stimulus package.

Agency spokesman Eric Waters said the signs will be visible at 30 projects across the state. The signs will cost about $2,000 each.

"We received $1 billion for roads and bridge projects; not all of the 242 projects will have signs," he said

I wondered about this exact issue when I saw one of these very expensive looking signs on a project (Biden’s Bridge) here in Central PA. They are really nice signs. Too nice.

Hey. While their doing all this "shovel ready" stuff, does anyone think they might ever finish the southern approach to the Delaware Memorial Bridge? Whatever they're doing has been going on for years now.

I saw a similar sign in NH where they spent $3.1 million paving a three mille section of state road rt. 122 that probably did not need to be paved for another 5 to 10 years.

Yeah, I saw it also. And yet, Lyndeborough Road continues to look like a tank trail! I guess it didn’t have enough traffic to propagandize.

I bid on heavy construction jobs, some of them are this “stimulus” crap. I throw in a cost of $4,000 to furnish & install these signs, especially if I hire a DBE contractor (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) to install them.

A $2000 road sign—
No wonder we have $600 toilet seats in the government spending.

With this kind of spending debacle, how can a single member of Congress NOT realize why we don’t trust them with the country pursestrings?????

The signs will cost $2000 each and will be put up by people who already have jobs. Union jobs.

So how is this helping put America back on track again?

I said at the time that we were being had... 7 gazillion dollars, stolen right under our noses.

I saw one of these signs a month ago in the North Carolina-Tennessee border area. The interesting thing is that it looked exactly like the one from PA shown in this thread.

According to the article, the U.S. Department of Transportation acknowledges that they “strongly encouraged” the states to use some of the stimulus funds to “develop” the signage.

If each state is “developing” signage, how come it all looks the same?

“Strongly encouraged”, my buttski. Here’s your sign.

Some company probably got the job to make signs for all the states.

We have the Gov Stimulus signs here in IL along I-57 near Mt. Vernon. The construction on the highway was started long before the Porkulus Bill. I wondered what the additional construction is supposed to be. My guess, here in the Great Fraud State of Illinois, the State keeps its cash and spends the money from Uncle Sugar.

Nice sign, but if it cost $2,000, I need to get in the sign business.

Waste of money IMHO.
