Former President Clinton Visits CIA
July 27, 2009
Former President Bill Clinton visited the Central Intelligence Agency today to thank the men and women of CIA for their essential work in protecting the United States from foreign threats.
Welcoming the former President back to CIA, Director Leon E. Panetta said: President Clinton understood very well the role of intelligence and its vital importance in the post-Cold War era. He relied on this Agency for information and insight, as he and his team confronted an array of foreign challenges.
In remarks to hundreds of employees in the Headquarters Auditorium, President Clinton spoke about his work in Latin America, Africa, and elsewhere since leaving the White House. Noting the unique contribution of intelligence to American security, he said, I think its critical to meeting the challenges that we face today and the ones were likely to face tomorrow. I guess thats the most important thing I can saythat I am grateful to all of you for your service here."
Because CIA has grown tremendously in recent years, a majority of the current workforce was not on staff when Clinton was President. Director Panetta noted that many of todays most pressing national security issues, such as global terrorism and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, were also priorities during the 1990s.
We certainly can benefit from the experience and perspective of a man who for eight years worked to defuse those dangers, protect our nation, and share the best of its ideals with the rest of the world, said Director Panetta, who served as budget director and White House chief of staff under President Clinton.
Prior to meeting with employees, President Clinton received briefings from senior analysts on counterterrorism and regional hotspots. What we have to be doing is trying to stop the big bad things from happening, trying to limit the damage from the bad things that do happen, and trying to keep moving the world in the direction it should go, he said. In all of those things, we need intelligence and analysis.

“And while I’m here, mind if I check that file? ...No, you you don’t need to watch me, you know you can trust me....”
Just whom is Panetta talking about? Certainly NOT Bill Clinton!
Hey Cindy...this is a comment I jut posted on an article two slots below yours.
This event sticks out like a sore thumb. Obama certainly wouldn’t have invited Bill to stick his nose in. I guess Hillary’s building bridges to the future.
I seem to remember President Clinton reining in the CIA after the left hammered him on the Harbury and CIA/CRACK issues. Many in the MSM were running stories asking, “Do we still need a CIA in the post-Soviet world?”
He when there to remind Leon E. Panetta who brought him to Washington.
Is there some reason he needs CIA briefings now when he didn't avail himself of the opportunity when he was President?
Or does he just miss getting debriefed by federal interns?
True...if he wasn’t paid to do it [he does nothing for free] then he’s up to something.
At first blush, I thought his visit was a slap in the face to Pelosi but maybe I’m giving too much credit to Bubba.
There really are no words to describe these outright lies.
President Clinton understood very well the role of intelligence and its vital importance in the post-Cold War era.
No Leon... he really didn't.
For the most part bubba looked away when terrorists struck our interests and whenever possible he sold our classified national security data for campaign donations.
What next, is Panetta going to be inviting sandy burglar over for nsa briefings too?
President Clinton understood very well the role of intelligence,So why did he ban the CIA to share information with the FBI???.
Bubba certainly had no time for intelligence reports. I remember the stories where intelligence had Bin Laden in their sights and all they needed was the go ahead to get him. (Book by Buzz Patterson) Bubba was watching some golf outing and didn't want to be bothered with the reports, and never gave the order to get Bin Laden.
Reading Patterson’s book was quite a revelation.
Another time he walked off and left the man with the football behind. I believe that was Patterson, who had to walk back to the White House carrying the football.
And to think we have gone from the frying pan into the fire.
There really are no words to describe these outright lies.
You are absolutely correct. Clinton ignored the security reports he got from the CIA. This is Panetta's brown-nosing at its best.
