Many of the online schools that are being suggested are public school programs, not private home school programs. There is a huge difference between the two.
Private homeschool programs rarely ask for any type of personal info, while publicly controlled programs require that you answer the intrusive questions that they would ask if you were enrolling at their campus.
Beware of the state. If you get curriculum, computer, etc. for “free”, then you and your child will not be free from control.
Some have suggested joining HSLDA, Home School Legal Defense Association, but you cannot join HSLDA if you are enrolled in a public, chartered, online virtual school. You may only enroll if you are truly “homeschooling.”

Look for an established college. Many have developed HS programs. In Texas, I think UT and Tech have. Stay away from Bill & Ted’s Excellent Online HS.
The thing about using an accredited college is that it gives you some clout when getting into college.
Online requires a lot of self-discipline. Failure rates tend to be higher because it’s easier to ignore an online teacher.
