He has some good points to make but he needs an editor.
NLP was developed by UC Santa Cruz grad students Bandler & Grinder in the early 70’s. It is a theraputic technique that uses a combination of hypnosis and the reading of eye movements to ascertain the patients truthfulness. Based on the work of Fritz Perlz and others. The movement grew big time, got modified, and now is used in a variety of ways by corporate, military and sports organizations. It is taught as an interrogation aid by the military and CIA. The techniques are actually sound, however Bandler, a druggie, went nuts, dropped out, and then killed his girlfriend a few years later. I live(d)in Santa Cruz, had a good friend who was their protege and went to one of their workshops. Interesting stuff. I still use the basic techniques all the time.

It doesn’t take very long to read up on it and the best part is, it only works on people who don’t know what it is, and how it works.

Roy Master's contention is that we are ALL under a hypnotic state to varying degrees by our reaction, that is why half the population voted for Obama and the other half seem to be in shock by it.
Zero had ‘focus groups’ do ‘controlled experiments’. A group was made to either listen to or see particular words....such as ‘hope’ and ‘change’....and rate them from 1-10. I happened to hear this by someone on talk radio (forgot who)...but I’ll try to dig it up.
His campaign was cleverly crafted. I even found it quite noticeable....and he still speaks in the same “bumper stickers” and uses the same rhetoric....almost to conjure the feelings his followers had that may have waned since the election.
That's why I hit the mute first and the channel changer second, the moment he comes on.
I first noticed this manipulation when he appeared on Jay Leno's Tonight show when he was running. Every few moments, he would say,
"I am running.
For President....
Of the...
United....
States."
...and Jay would grin with delight and the audience would cheer.... he repeated this entire phrase at least four times and possibly more during a 6-minute appearance — as compared to normal conversation, where I person would say, "I'm running", or "so I announced that I'm a candidate for President", "during my campaign", etc., varying the presentation as you would in normal exchange.
Having once lived with a pathological liar, my radar went off then and there.

I’ve said this on other threads and I’ll say it again here - unplug your TV. Like the lady in Iowa who’s selling her TVs because Zero was on them all the time.
I would also compare and contrast this stuff with the fact that Rush has been speeding up the tapes of Zero (and other RATs). The stated reason was that “they are in a hurry so I’ll play the tapes in that spirit”. But the secondary reason is to expose the content while distorting the speech patterns.
IOW I think there’s something too all of this.
Never did get Tony Robbins though - I mean I got the basic idea - but why all the fuss? I guess it’s like Zero - either you’re under the spell or you are not.

Like nearly everything else, it can be productive or destructive, good or bad. The trick is to know what it is and when someone is attempting to use it. And yes, a lot of what Obama did and does uses the techniques. I couldn't listen to him for very long and focus because I became distracted by my mind identifying how he was using it, and how skillfully. It isn't scary, and is at times very useful if you want to change your own behavior, but you have to know the techniques and be able to recognize them.

What I'd like to see is an experiment where someone plays a tape of Obama to one of his fans just once. Then ask them to reiterate what the guy just said. I bet the majority of them couldn't do it. Half the time, I can't do it. I tune it out halfway through, even though I am consciously trying to listen.

I’m like norraad - I find myself telling myself “don’t listen - it’s all BS - etc. etc.” But I do like listening to Rush’s speeded up clips. I think the speech patterns are quite unusual, not something you encounter in day to day life.
I can think of a lot of experiments like you. Another would be to play them to a non-native English speaker. I’m guessing that they wouldn’t have as much of an effect. I’d also be curious to know if Zero always talked like that (I doubt it) or if at some point in his infamous career he started doing it. Kind of analogous to steroid usage in baseball. You can go back and find pictures of skinny Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire etc. before they started juicing.

I use it to ascertain whether a person is lying or being deceptive. I used it a lot as a 96C in the Army. The simplest usage is to track eye movements; the more complicated is the usage of language and anchors to bypass the conscious mind - all things 0 does exceptionally well. He must have had extensive training - or his handlers and speech writers coach him well. Notice how he fumbles when the old telepromter is beyond his sight!
