1. Drink a couple of beers.

2. Airing of grievances.

3. Feats of strength.

That’s fine for you ... to each his own ... I’m no expert on Bible quotes, and I do NOT get into religious discussions, but I guess for me, a quote of Jesus I recall does something like this: “Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” I think that priniciple sort of applies for me with regard to my blood family. I’m polite and cordial on the infrequent occasions we talk, and I will show up for funerals, but that’s it. I also pray almost daily for family members, which is far and away the very best thing of my own that I can share with them. It is more beneficial to them that I share that than my physical company. And of course, I would never tell them that I pray for them, and I never mention religion around them whatsoever. I respect their free will to live as they choose.

For myself, I have found it natural to choose my real friends from folks with an idealistic (which includes political) bent more akin to my own, and more importantly, who have religious inclinations similar to mine. I find it reinforcing for the type of lifestyle that my wife and I choose to lead.

Best Regards ...

I don’t think your sister is very interested in his politics- she likes HIM for whatever reason- some imagined one at that...generally infatuation peters out within 3 mos so I suggest you deal directly with guy and not his politics. Try inviting another couple that are in a stable relationship that you know and put him on the defensive or better yet, invite some other guy that she thinks is waay hot but never got around to date. that should do it.

Let’s see - I was visiting **my** relative. This **friend** dropped in unannounced and immediately started bad-mouthing everything we believe in. My relative believes as I do, but just won’t say anything - who was being rude? Me?? I think not.

And since when did being a doormat and letting rats run all over us become a conversative virtue? Why should rats get to say anything they want, where-ever they want and to whoever they want, and that’s perfectly OK. But should we actually **respond** to a rat with facts and logic, somehow we are bad and uncivilized? Time to wake up, doormats are not capable of retaining what little of our freedom we have left.

Alas, yes. Jim Thompson rode through here on a razor-blade-wheeled Harley. Again.

Pardon me but I DID NOT “post drivel”.

I was trying to help somebody remember a quote, which I obviously have not taken to heart as I did not even get the exact quote *right*.

Go kick Churchill, not me.

Whether by parental intent or just innate tendencies, I personally never went through a “young and liberal” phase.

I’ve always been extremely conservative.

Politics in Maryland are a strange thing.

My family [back to the beginning of time..LOL] were always Democrats.

*But* we were western MD, hillbilly Dems who loved God, guns, family, kids, morals and all the rest of conservative ideals.

Then came Jimmeh Carter.

/cue melodramatic music

By 1980, we were all Reagan Democrats and by 1984, we were all staunch ~conservative~ Republicans.

We were a classic example of “we didn’t leave the party; the party left *us*”.

It took a bit longer for the other hill-folk west of me to “get” that the Dems were no longer really “Dems” but commies in disguise and now W.MD votes [R] nearly universally, with the exception of Allegany county because of the Frostburg College ‘rat population.
