Looks like Bing pulled a Google today.
What is it about those lanterns that is supposed to make me barf?
All I see is an image of some Japanese floating lanterns.
Pretty glowing boxes are a barf alert?

The floating lanterns are a tribute to those who were killed this day in history in Hiroshima. What’s barf about that?
What’s the big deal? It’s not like they have a give peace a chance sign or anything. It is a pretty significant moment in history you know, no matter which side of the debate you fall on.
The lanterns are to memorials to those who died in the Hiroshima bombing. If you mouse around the page there are boxes with informational blubs you can click on.
I find nothing offensive about the Japanese remembering their dead. Am I missing something?

Eh, I don’t have a problem with it. Would you rather they have decorated the page with mushroom clouds? It was a terrible thing we had to do on this day 64 years ago, certainly nothing to celebrate. Japan is a peaceful democratic nation and a good friend of the United States, there’s no reason not to remember the lives lost and celebrate the peace between our countries since.

Of the many images they could have chosen, this is probably the least offensive.
So, it was an event that ended the war, a major historical milestone. The floating lanterns are a Shinto tradition. It isn’t like they are running around demanding reparations. Many Japanese now understand what happened and I recall a couple of years ago a Japanese foreign minister even said the dropping of the bombs was ‘necessary’ and saved Japanese lives from an extended war.

Yes, that building is still there as a monument. It was called the HMI building before the bombing and now it’s the Atomic Bomb Dome.
No problem with it here. There’s nothing wrong with remembering, even the difficult events. History isn’t always pretty, and we must not forget.
For that matter (and I know many will disagree with me on this), I don’t have a problem with Google doing whatever they want with their page. Free society, freedom of speech and opinion, capitalism, etc. It’s theirs to do with as they want, and it’s my choice whether or not to use their service.
Same with Bing.
And you don’t believe that it is regrettable that it had to come down to using the bomb?
There’s nothing barf worthy about a tasteful memorial to the civilians who died in the bombing. It was necessary, but we should respect their dead.
