I see the Eagles are desperate to bolster running back* depth.
* I know Michael Vick lines up at quarterback. But he’s terrible at it. He plays the QB position as if he were a running back. Therefore, he should be considered a running back.

No. Kevin Kolb is hurt, Vick us going to backup McNabb.

What’s somewhat ironic is that Vick’s last game was on 12/31/06 which was against the Eagles. McNabb can’t be too happy about this.

NFL Network is humping Vick’s leg right now. Wonderful, great move according to them, and the Philly fans realize that winning a game is more important than... anything, I guess. Course, most of the Philadelphia fans lead Vick in convictions by three or four, so no big deal, I guess.

They signed him. Just announced it on the team’s local broadcast, confirmed by the front office.
I think Andy Reid’s family problems have changed him. His sons have made him more open to given guys a second chance.
To: Jersey Republican Biker Chick
Vick is a good pickup:
If McNabb goes down they will have QB capable of winning game on his own. problem is the fumbles and wild throws. But when healthy he lead Falcons to playoffs, when hurt they were nothing. His last year was messed up by bad coaching.
Wish him well.

Most teams want to run some form of “wildcat” offense. Vick, in his prime anyway, would have been perfect for that.
I’m surprised teams didn’t wait for his 60 minutes interview before they signed him. Seems like a public relations nightmare to me.

Watching the Eagles preaseason game right now. Howard Eskin is reporting that the team will officially confirm the signing after the game and hold a press conference tommorrow. His info is that Kevin Kolb will still be the backup QB and that the Eagles plan on using Vick on a situational basis in the Wildcat offense. This is a nightmare for this longtime Eagle fan.

Most teams want to run some form of wildcat offense. Vick, in his prime anyway, would have been perfect for that.
No, he wouldn't have. The Wildcat is not merely a direct snap to a running back. It's a single-wing formation in which the offensive line assumes an unbalanced configuration. The Copycat that appeared in the NFL last year after the Dolphins successfully implemented the formation did not have the unbalanced offensive line: it was just a glorified direct snap. Remember, the purpose of the Wildcat is to force honest defensive coverage: because a runner who is a threat to pass accurately (which Vick is not) is receiving the snap, every wideout must be covered, which means the opposing defense cannot stack the box, creating extra running room if the play is actually a run. If the play is a pass, then every wideout is single-covered with safeties having to come over the top to help.
Pat White can function well in the Wildcat because he is a proven accurate passer as well as a proven quick runner. Michael Vick cannot because his accuracy rating is in the toilet and his speed at this point in his career is questionable. If the Eagles put Vick on the field in a Copycat formation, then you've got the exact same situation as Vick's time in Atlanta: a WCO team giving direct snaps to a QB who can't throw.
This is a horrible fit for Vick in terms of scheme and ability to play, and I maintain this is a desperation move by an organization that tried to sign Matt Freaking Nagy to a backup QB spot before considering Michael Vick.

$1.6 million this year, with a team option to retain him at $5.2 million next year.

Great post there. I agree and think your dead on accurate with every thing in your post except for the last line about this being a desperation move. After listening to Reid last night it seems like he's really into the whole “second chance” thing after what he's been through with his kids and I do think he plans on running the wildcat. I like Andy Reid but I agree with Ray Didinger who has said Reid's Achilles heel is his desire to constantly try to outsmart his opponents often to the detriment of his own team. As far as Nagy goes, I don't think Kevin Kolb’s injury is that serious and I think the attempt to sign Nagy was only a gimmick for last nights game.
