Linda McMahon To Run For Senate?
Wrestling Inc. ^ | 8/14/09 | Ryan Clark

Posted on 08/16/2009 1:49:02 PM PDT by Rodebrecht

Several outlets including NBC are reporting that WWE CEO Linda McMahon is considering running for a Senate seat. If she goes through with it, she'd run as a Republican against Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd in 2010. McMahon has already had some political success this year as she was successfully appointed to the Connecticut State Board Of Education.

The WWE has annually set up house shows for our troops in Iraq and they have never missed one since the invasion. The Mcmahons have always supported our soldiers and as independent and entrepeneural as the next conservative. She gets my vote if I lived in Conn.

A wrestling promoter for Senate? She sounds more like a campaign manager than a candidate. But maybe she’s got the media savvy to win.

Don't like the sound of that---smacks of beaurocratism esp. BOE which usually is Dem contolled.

"Wonder if she would be a conservative or a RINO? "

Her husband has made a billion dollars by paying large-chested women to run around a wrestling ring wearing nothing much more than perfume and body glitter. Do you really think she's a conservative. Probably just a small-government, lower taxes version of a libertarian.

Which, as you point out, would still be a HUGE improvement over Dodd.

Right you are! She’s also run a very successful WWE enterprise. She should take Vince, Stephanie and her son-in-law Triple H on the campaign trail with her.

By the way, “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair is a Republican and has been getting involved with politics as well.

Exactly. She’s going to be propped up as a pseudo anti-establishment candidate to draw votes away from Peter Schiff, allowing that 100% NARAL-approved creep Simmons to win.

She will have to make a preemptive strike against all the skeletons in Vince's closet. Not to mention the fact that he has made a lot of enemies through the years taking what used to be a regional business national.

On the other hand don't ever count a McMahon out, they took on both US justice department and Ted Turner and beat both. One thing the GOP could definitely learn from the McMahons is that fighting instinct, she won't roll over and play dead for the democrats.

She won't have to because she'll willingly vote with them. It said she was appointed to the state's BOE. That means she has connections to the (liberal) establishment's apparatchiks.

Jodi Rell nominated Linda to the BOE.

There were alot of objections and votes against from almost entirely Democrats.

Her and Vince met at church and she was a trustee at Sacred Heart University (Private Catholic school).

After all of what her and Vince have had to deal with the federal government, I have a good feeling she would be an awesome score for the GOP to get someone like her from a Blue state like Connecticut.

She’s a very accomplished women for sure.

Linda McMahon?! Now there’s a perfectly terrible idea. She and Vince have been marketing T & A to kids for years, and if she’s half the egomaniac Vince seems to be (not talking about his WWE character, but the way he acted in public for years before giving himself that persona on his shows) then she shouldn’t be anywhere near public office.

I bet a lot of people thought the same thing about Richard Petty when he ran for NC Secretary of State in 1996, but he went down in flames.

Flair has way too many skeletons in his closet. All the wrestlers, esp. back in the 80s, were doing drugs, running around on their wives, and God only knows what else.

I don't think it's accurate to say that the McMahons beat Ted Turner, because Turner never treated WCW as anything other than filler for his cable channels.

Turner bought Crockett's dead NWA promotion in the late 80s and relegated it to the back of his Sports division where it was never taken that seriously. Had Turner taken it seriously, the WWE/WWF would've been creamed.

As for the Justice Department, if you're referring to the steroid trial(s) in the early 90s, the McMahons managed to lie their way out of that one, only because few of the wrestlers were willing to lose their jobs over being honest. Doesn't exactly say much for Linda's ability to be a principled Senator.

You're saying that, because the McMahons eluded the law WRT steroids in the WWF, that would qualify her to be a Senator?

>> Doesn’t sound like a great idea to me. We don’t need a counterpart to Al Franken. <<

I would say that description would fit her husband better, since Vince McMahon is the one who likes to make an @$$ out of himself on TV (shown literally here) to get ratings for WWE. His wife has occasionally participated in the WWE storylines but she's actually vetoed some of his more outrageous antics.

I do agree it's probably a bad idea for Linda McMahon to run for the Senate at this time though. She's likely to split the anti-establishment GOP vote, which would help RINO Rob Simmons win in a divided field of opponents.

I hope Sam Caligiuri stays in though, in case Schiff turns out to be too liberal on other social issues like gay marriage and immigration. campaignPete was right, we should have vetted Schiff more to find out his position on other issues, even if his economic credentials are impeccable.

The little bit I have seen Schiff talk about the possible Senate run it didnt look like he had any specific ideas on health care or other issues. Just saying ‘get government out of it’ for ever specific issue is not an very electable position (not even a position) and it doesn't seem like he is serious about the run. Plus, he would have to resign EPC.

The characters are getting more wacky, the plots more bizarre and the outcomes seem predetermined.

I remember a few years back when they had a “debate” over the Iraq war during Raw. The heel was anti-Iraq war and the face was pro-Iraq war.
I especially liked that the heel was ivy-league educated “Harvard Chris”

I remember seeing him on Hannity. I was really disappointed. He seemed to be saying “I’m a Republican, so vote for me”. He flat out refused to say anything uncomplimentary about Dodd and when Hannity tried to say anything, this guy just ignored it. He also didn’t seem to have any specific ideas.
At least you know that Linda McMahon would be on the attack so to speak.

You're looking at a snapshot of a couple of years. Overall, the Turner folks never had a serious mindset of hiring the people who could turn WCW into ‘the top wrestling company’ - they didn't take it seriously at all, it was just something to run on TBS 3 or 4 hours a week with a Clash of the Champions special every other month that got decent ratings. Turner bought it out of pity and wanted to keep it around because wrestling and Braves baseball were the original staples of TBS.

Bischoff got the Turner folks to throw enough money at it for a while to hire a bunch of old WWE stars and start Nitro; they only made a profit for those two or three years, and after that went even deeper into the hole. The McMahons competed with Bischoff, who had their old stars using Turner's money, but Turner never gave it any attention himself or they surely would have been run out of business.

Beyond keeping their company afloat during those times and letting WCW die a natural death, none of that is any credit to Linda McMahon.

Dodd is crippled ... Caligiuri has dropped out (HOUSE) ... Foley is going to run for Gov ... and Simmons is receiving a negative reaction from much of the party, both insiders and grassroots.

So a clearing has opened for McMahon and Schiff! I am supporting Uncommitted delegates who are hostile toward Simmons. (Reminder: Simmons had a 100% NARAL voting record. He is a PlannedParenthood operative.)

DUMP DODD!!! DUMP SIMMONS!!!

Pro-lifers will have much to cheer about as both of those losers gets dismantled in the next 12 months.

We Social Conservatives in Connecticut constantly remind ourselves that it is more about who you’re against, than about who you are for.

yes, all offices in Conn have conventions (of some sort) to award the party endorsement. Candidates can primary to have a shot at the nomination.

A few years back, primaries were difficult to qualify for. A state judge ruled this to be unconstitutional ... and the state changed the law rather than appeal.

The battles will be: Can Simmons get 50%? without it, there is no endorsement. Can Schiff get 15%? without it, he has to collect signatures to get on the primary ballot. Lotsa signatures.

Maybe I will be a delegate. Ya never know. I’m showing up at the caucus in January where the delegate selection process begins. It’s been years since I’ve been a party regular, so I’m a total outsider.
