WERA Racer Chapman Critically Injured At VIR

From a press release issued by Team Velocity Racing:
Zac Chapman, a WERA racer and team rider for TVR/EBC Brakes Yamaha, was critically injured in a sprint race on Saturday during WERAs Cycle Jam at Virginia International Raceway.
Chapman supported TVR during the endurance race on Friday, although he opted not to ride. He is recovering from a broken ankle and felt the hour-long stints might be too strenuous. After the endurance race, Chapman stayed to compete on his own bikes throughout the remainder of the weekend. During his first race on Saturday, Chapman crashed in turn six; it was a single-bike incident.
Chapman received head and neck injuries in the crash. He was initially lucid, but he was taken to the hospital in nearby Danville as a precaution. After arriving there, however, his condition declined and he was airlifted to the Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia.
As of Sunday night, Chapman is in a coma due to his injuriesincluding fluid buildup inside his skulland is listed in critical condition. He has already undergone two surgeries to relieve the pressure in his skull and to accommodate swelling. More information will be released as it becomes available.
Chapmans family is by his side, and they, along with his TVR teammates, request prayers and thoughts for his recovery. Zac is more than a teammate; hes also a good friend, said TVR team owner Chuck Ivey. The whole team is pulling for him.

CURRENT UPDATE ON ZAC
Zac had surgery today to place an umbrella filter in which will keep blood clots from forming. They have also removed the tubes from Zacs brain because the pressure has stopped rising. Zacs heart rate and fever are now normal.
They will be doing surgery soon to place an Umbrella (filter) that prevents blood clots. We are still waiting for the tubes to be removed. Zac's breathing has remained steady with the back-up assistance of the ventilator.

Zac is currently breathing off the ventilator. The blood clot blocking the brain stem is starting to diminish, so the spinal fluid drainage is starting to slow down. They will soon be able to remove the 2 tubes in his brain. They will also be putting feeding tubes in and performing a tracheotomy today. There are lots of small improvements, but the doctors recognize that this will be a long process.
Fred has been very touched by the amount of people praying and helping out financially with the medical bills that are accumulating. He would like to thank everyone for the comfort and hope he has found in all of the support being given.
Zac is currently being treated for Pneumonia and is still comatose. The fever is working it's way down. Please continue to pray.
Zac's status has not changed much. Heart rate & temperature stable. He had developed an infection in his mouth, but is on antibiotics. He is being given nutrition as well. The EEG did not show any seizure activity, but little to no brain activity at this point, which could change with decrease in swelling. Continue to pray for his healing, free of infection.
The family is doing well. They look to be returning to their respective homes Friday. All of them except Fred. He will remain with Zac. Pray for his faith and strength to be sustained and to continue to lean on God in his decision-making.
Zac is undergoing an EEG.
Prayers up for Zac, his family, and all who are ocncerned.
Praying that the dear Lord hold Zac and his family in a loving embrace.
Some in my family went through a similar situation a year ago (motorcycle injury) and the Lord called our loved one home.
Prayers for the motorcyclist.
FWIW — the article was almost unreadable because of all the acronyms.
Just found some additional info. This update is from Zac’s Mom at Two Wheeled Texans - http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42063&page=2

Re: Prayer for Zack Chapman
Zac’s temp. is down tonight. They have the cooling blanket underneath him instead of on top of him and his temp. is 98.2. Zac is not breathing any on his own today like he was yesterday, but this is normal at this stage the nurse tells me. He is no longer on the glucose drip which means his blood sugars are more stable. They test his blood sugar every 4 hours now and give him insulin as needed. His intracranial pressures have stayed low so the plan is still to remove the drains tomorrow. Even though I may not know any of you personally, I want to thank you for your love and concern for Zac. Please continue with prayers for a full and miraculous recovery!! Those of you that know him know that Zac is a great kid and needs to stick around longer so that he may continue to touch peoples lives in a positive manner.
Love and gratitude to all of you,
