The BC in itself proves nothing. The issue is not whether she passed for a female at birth, but whether she has certain genetic advantages that make her too male for fair competition.

I could be wrong, but I bet even with hermaphrodites they choose one or the other gender and run with it. Or do they put “male/female” on their BCs?

Why did they have to see the birth certificate?

Are there British birthers too?

Wasn’t her word good enough?

Funny; the birth status of some athlete gets more ‘official’ scrutiny than that of the President of the United States.

I thought gender tests were done by urinalysis. They give the athlete a specimen cup and send them into the bathroom. When the athlete emerges from the bathroom, the lab tech runs in to see if the toilet seat is up or down...

Oh, silly me. I didn't realize that it went into history books. Unlike Presidents who are never of such significance that they get into history books. ;-)

I read something about this today where it was indicated the results would take weeks to release because it was complicated.

Someone in the past was stripped of a medal because she wasn’t the sex that she thought she was because she had something in her test...and she tried to commit suicide.

Apparently, it can be quite complicated...and areas where there are shades of gray.

This whole gender thing used to be simple. Now it’s too confusing.
Maybe Obama can borrow her/his BC.

I am of the thinking that she is a woman but has male testicles that never dropped meaning she has the chromosones of a man but the female body parts which means she has more testosterone and she will be disqualified.

Yes, they just tend to be less prominent than on men.

The Adam’s apple is much more prominent in men. Its prominence is a secondary sexual characteristic. A prominent Adam’s apple is one way to spot men dressed as women.

After viewing several pictures of her(?), I can’t see any feminine features at all. Her/his body, face, hair and hands (did you see the size of them?) all appear totally masculine. Also, did you notice how she (?) alwasys wears long shorts, while all the other ladies were very short ones.

I guess the gender tests will tell the story, but my guess is this not even a person of ambiguous gender, but simply a boy posing as a girl.

From the Guardian:

“Semenya’s father, Jacob, told the Times: “We won’t accept her having to undergo those tests, and we agree – she should [have] rather rejected the medal. We won’t allow our daughter to be disgraced.”

Sounds like a coverup to me.

In some of these cases, a birth certificate is not always definitive. Sometimes the doctors, aware of an abnormality, will just *select* a gender.
