This creature is one of at least five new "green bombers"--deep-sea, swimming worm species armed with "bombs" (indicated by arrow) that glow a brilliant green when dropped.
The glowing bombs are thought to distract predators such as fish, allowing the worms to escape.
"There are no other annelids that have structures like this," said Karen Osborn, a marine biologist at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in California. The annelids make up a large category of marine and terrestrial segmented-worm species, including common earthworms.
Now that’s a great headline!
Not bombs, then; chaff. SPD, I think.
Yo, Hussein. That is an example of transparency.
Is this the deep sea equivalent of screaming like a little girl, waving your arms and running out of the bar? I saw a guy use this strategy to get out of a fight with several larger opponents armed with knives. If he could of secreted glowing green goo it might of added to the effect. He might actually of secreted something but I doubt it glowed.
About ten years ago i was hanging out with a few buds under a bridge next to my freinds Cape Cod house.
I’m looking at the water flowing by and suddenly i notice these green glowing things in the water.
They looked like Cyalume light sticks glowing green down there.
Maybe it was glowing alge??
It was VERY cool.
Anyways we revisited the bridge for old timessake 2 weeks ago and found a ton of used condoms and empty KY Jelly tubes all over the rocks underneath.
Looks like it’s now become a homo meeting spot.
pretty disgusting.
After reading it three times and not having a clue what it meant, I *had* to click on it.
