Rock icon Bob Dylan will sing the old yuletide standards "Winter Wonderland" and "Little Drummer Boy" on his first ever Christmas album, with royalties going to charity, his record label said on Wednesday.
Dylan's "Christmas in the Heart" album is due out on October 13, nearly six months after the release of his last studio album, "Together Through Life," which topped the charts.
Speculation about the Christmas album began surfacing a few months ago, but were initially met with disbelief by some Dylan aficionados, as the singer was not known to record Christmas songs, and his latest albums have featured original material.
Dylan will donate all his U.S. royalties from album sales to the charity group Feeding America, and in a statement he said he hopes it brings "food security to people in need."
Feeding America said it expects to provide meals to 1.4 million people this holiday season with the album proceeds.
Columbia said Dylan plans to donate his international royalties to two charity organizations that give meals to needy people in Britain and the developing world. But details on that partnership are still being worked out.

Props to him, but you don’t need a weatherman to know this is gonna suck...
From what I hear, you should like it if you are a Dylan fan...Mr. Blonde on Blonde?
Awe, Jeeze! A ‘We Are The World’ moment for Bob? Yeesh!
You mean another one (as he was on that, too)?
I love Bob Dylan. But it might be depressing. :-|
I need something to replace the Phil Spector Christmas Album, since Phil’s recent history pretty much spoiled that one for me.
Oh, I’m a big fan of Dylan. Not so much of Christmas music though. I will definitely be giving it a listen or two.
I’m glad that they have enough courage to call it a “Christmas” album, as opposed to calling it a “holiday” music album.
I *LOVE* the old Phil Spector Christmas album.
“They stoned me, ba rumpa bump bump BUUMMMM...”
For someone who has developed a real love of tradition (after spending a good portion of his career upending tradition) it is no surprise that he calls it a Christmas album and wouldn’t stand for anything else.
I can’t keep up. ;)
I love Christmas albums. That said, his last album was the first one I haven’t bought since 1963. I’ll buy this one (read my first sentence). It can’t be much worse than Ringo’s!!
This was a SNL skit decades ago.
I hope he writes & sings (sorta) a few original Christmas songs for the album.
Bob Dylan is a national treasure.

Bob Dylan's satnav would take us to Desolation Row (Bob to narrate GPS system, "'s'cuse me?") (Guardian August 26, 2009)
You don’t need a weatherman to walk in a winter wonderland...
It’s alright ma, I’ve already got a sweater
Ha! No doubt after wrapping Christmas presents he’ll be tangled up in glue.
Dylan is awesome. I will buy it.
