It’s been a while, but the best breakfast deals were always at Arizona Charlies.

It's been a few years ago, and our favorite place - The New Frontier - is gone, but I'd suggest Downtown. Places like the Four Queens and Golden Nugget have dining choices for every budget.....and everything's within easy walking distance.

If they want a kitschy hoot, take a cab to the Liberace museum.

Anyone can search Google or Yahoo - I’d rather ask the locals in here for their recommendations.

Go to lasvegasadvisor.com.

It tells you whos got the loosest slot machines, The best buffets, best meal deals.

Usually #1 on meals is Ellis Island (At least when I was last there) $5 Filet with baked potato, string beans and salad. Very good steak.

They've also shown 1/4# hot dogs for $1, or ice cream cones for $1.

Make sure you check out the archives. Sometimes things aren't top rated anymore, not because they have changed, but other things come on that rate better.

first time in vegas - stay on the strip - it must be experienced. Take the Deuce (double decker bus) downtown to Fremont St. - best gambling for low-rollers is downtown - walk to the El Cortez for good cheap blackjack and craps. On the strip is Casino Royale or O’Shea’s (across from the Mirage.

You don’t need a car if it’s first time in vegas. If you must have a car and venture off - try these places:
Crown and Anchor Pub on East Tropicana (a real British pub)
Double Down Saloon (south of Hard Rock Cafe) - a real punk bar.
Silverton - South on Las Vegas Blvd - a locals favorite casino and good food with a Bass Pro Shop
M Resort

There’s a new place on the Boulder Highway, next to Sam’s Town.

It’s the Eastside Cannery. Nice rooms, LCD tvs, friendly and the rooms are $29/night. They just opened late last fall.

Great website for all things Vegas is www.lasvegasadviser.com

I wonder if there’s a discount on that $17,000 time share sales pitch i got about five years ago? I might be interested if it’s only a couple grand now.

There is a local’s casino and gas station chain called “Terrible’s”. They have a property that is on Paradise Road (parallels the strip about a mile east); Flamingo Road runs just north of the hotel. I regularly eat breakfast there when I go to Vegas every year for a convention; it is a throwback to when all the hotels had fantastic food specials. Despite the name, it is a nice place with friendly people.

For dinner, the best steakhouse in town used to be at Binion’s Horseshoe. The Binion family is no longer involved with the hotel (it is owned by MTR, the owners of Mountaineer Park in West Virginia), so I don’t know whether the food is as good as it used to be. When I first ate there 25 years ago, the restaurant used to be in the basement of the Horseshoe; it was moved to the penthouse of the old Del Webb’s Mint, which is the adjacent building and was bought by the Binion family and consolidated with the Horseshoe. This property is downtown, on the “Fremont Street Experience” at Casino Center Boulevard.

Another excellent breakfast restaurant not connected to a hotel is the Peppermill, which is near the Riviera on the strip.
