ALERT ALERT
The LG battery that was in my wife's Verizon cellphone shorted out and became EXTREMELY HOT TO THE TOUCH and causing other items in the purse to get HOT.
The battery is an LG Lithium Ion 3.7v 1000mAh, part number of LGIP-520B
We contacted Verizon and I put a report into the Consumer Product Safety Commision website.
I couldn't find anything online about this problem with this battery.

My daughter had an LG phone that melted when the battery went belly up, don’t remember the model.
