DALLAS — It’s practically fattening just thinking about it.

Deep fried butter is among eight creative food items by vendors at this year’s State Fair of Texas in Dallas.

Fair officials say a Labor Day cookoff will determine the winner of the Big Tex Choice Awards.

The State Fair of Texas runs Sept. 25 through Oct. 18.

The eight creative food items by vendors at this year’s State Fair of Texas in Dallas:

* Deep fried butter

* Green goblins

* Twisted yam on a stick

* Deep fried peaches and cream

* Fried pecan pie

* Country fried pork chops

* Sweet jalapeno corn dog shrimp

* Fried peanut butter cup macaroon

“Fried” seems to be a keyword. I guess it’s an obvious way to cook under the circumstances, but ... *shudder*.

Twisted yams on a stick sound goood.

Notice the deep-fried bag.

The Wisconsin State Fair this year had chocolate covered bacon...

As you know deep fried cheese curds are served in restaurants there.

Hadn’t heard of chicken-fried bacon, but it reminded me of my daddy. He loved chicken-fried salt pork slices once in a while.

God bless Texas.

And its State Fair.

And the creative cuisine it engenders.
