Guatemala Mayan city may have ended in pyramid battle

EL MIRADOR, Guatemala (Reuters) - One of Guatemala's greatest ancient Mayan cities may have died out in a bloody battle atop a huge pyramid between a royal family and invaders from hundreds of miles away, archaeologists say.

Researchers are carrying out DNA tests on blood samples from hundreds of spear tips and arrowheads dug up with bone fragments and smashed pottery at the summit of the El Tigre pyramid in the Mayan city of El Mirador, buried beneath jungle vegetation 8 km from Guatemala's border with Mexico.

Many of the excavated blades are made of obsidian which the archaeologists have traced to a source hundreds of miles away in the Mexican highlands. They believe the spears belonged to warriors from Teotihuacan, an ancient civilization near Mexico City and an ally of Tikal, which was an enemy city of El Mirador.

Today’s Mayan’s tell it a little differently. They claim they were a peace loving people until the indians from Mexico City showed up and that those other indians were the bloodthirsty lot.

The bend-em-over-to-extract-the-heart alters predate the Spanish. So they had to find bad indians to blame them on.

Not a bad idea for a city. The pyramid shape is as solid a structure as can be and that shape keeps the area sunny and airy.

Stumbled across the National Geographic Channel on TV this weekend and the thought occurred -- their gods consist of:

• Al Gore -- gee, wonder why
• Dr. Jane Goodall -- she who serenely sits among chimp feces
• Dr. Robert Ballard -- this last appears to have a personal cameraman who follows him everywhere in order to document his every move/thought/reaction. "And then I said,..." "Wow! Look there...!" "And then I thought,..."

A shame that a formerly worthwhile magazine has sold its soul to pursue a hard green moonbat agenda.

What? I thought “We CAN ALL get along” was the by-word for North American
populations until those blue-eyed devils (OK, and some pale-skinned
brown-eyed devils) came along.

Faculty, students and grads of the history departments of Harvard,
Yale, UCLA, Berkeley, etc. will be “deeply saddened” if the thesis
of this report is confirmed!

It's been pursuing that agenda since the 1970s when it announced the environment took precedence over any other topic. I canceled my subscription years ago when they anti-scientifically began beating the drum for global warming.
