This afternoon our Comcast digital cable box switched to C-span by itself while Democrats were trashing Rep. Wilson. The box would not allow us to watch any other station for approximately 15 minutes. When I called to complain Comcast technical support said that they were performing a "test of the emergency broadcast system" that switched all digital boxes in Western Washington to C-span and would not allow subscribers to watch anything else. They said that the programming taking place on C-span was merely a coincidence.
After subcribers learned that Comcast throttles pc downloads, a huge number of their web customers left. Comcats blows.

When Cox runs it’s “Monthly test’, they just kill the sound on all channels & run a crawl to explain the silence.
They do that all the time. Whether it be a storm warning or a missing child report and test of the emergency broadcast system. Sometimes I get so sick of it I just have to unplug may cable and hook up my antenae and DTV converter and just watch regular tv. Atleast you won’t get those warnings then. Its irritating when it happens when your watching a show or a football game on the weekend.

My suspicion was and still is that this was not a complete coincidence. I called up to cancel and had my monthly bill lowered to a promotional rate for the next six months.

Wouldn’t it be a “coincidence” if all subscribers did an “emergency test” of their checkbooks and didn’t pay their bills this month?
LOL, At first I thought there was just something wrong with the box or remote. So look Mr. perfect; I cut up and then split by hand over a cord of firewood today, what did you do? The reward I got when I came back in the house was my wife being irate about having to watch C-span while she waited for some show that she enjoys to come back on. I then had to place myself between the TV and her to prevent damage to the screen from the objects she was throwing. Thank goodness I was able to wrestle the AK out of her hands.
Did Comcast also lock out the power button on your TV remote?
It seems like I just covered that. I placed my life in jeopardy trying to save the TV from the wrath of my beloved bride.

Wow. I've heard bad things about Comcast, but this takes the cake. We have Cox Communications cable and have been generally happy with thait.
However, on the day that Sarah Palin gave the speech in her backyard announcing she was stepping down as Alaska governor, we missed part of her speech because Cox suddenly had to test the emergency broadcast system. This was in the middle of the day here in Connecticut. On our system Cox does its EBS tests 99% of the time between 1-2am (I'm often up and I see them).

The coincidence with C-span’s broadcast and the amber alert was pure luck. However, if I were a conspiracy theory guy, seeing my cable box stuck on Channel 24 with the congressman in a hot lather over “You lie,” I would be worried. What I hope many who experienced this bilge from Congress is what I did: I turned off the TV.
This was actually considered with over-the-air television during the Cold War - TV’s that would turn themselves on in the event of an emergency.

LOL. My wife was also very irate. She was frantically slapping the remote and shutting off power. When I informed her that the error code EO5 was on the box and that it was a function of the amber alert, she shut off the TV. No one in their right mind would watch that idiot sanctimonious DemonRAT congressman ranting about the breach of decorum by Joe Wilson.

I was incensed about the fact that they, comcast, abused the EAS ... they should not be able to use the EAS in this way and should get fined for doing so --- anyone know who to write to for this ... this is just dems at work. The country will only get more corrupt as they get more power ... ACORN will run the country.
Oh, there wasn’t a comcast test here ... there was an EAS message about an abduction, an amber alert for a 9 month old baby and it’s father ... that story is on King 5 website ... I thought for a minute maybe even that was faked .... http://www.king5.com/topstories/stories/NW_091509WAB-amber-alert-harmony-veielle-TP.183541c8a.html ... but usually the system goes to CSPAN then back to the channel I was watching ... but again yesterday it was 15 minutes of CSPAN following the AMBER alert.

yes ,,, I am know what the EAS does .... but it has never froze on CSPAN at the start of a political circus ... and then locked there for 15 minutes .... this was ABUSE of the EAS system by comcast.
