In 1981, what passport did Obama use to travel to Pakistan?

In 1981, Pakistan was on the U.S. State Department's "no travel" list and Obama could not have used a US passport to travel to Pakistan. If he used a British passport, it would mean that he was born in Kenya. Because Obama’s stepfather that adopted him was Indonesian and both his mother and him became Indonesian citizens themselves, a country that did not allow dual citizenships, if he used an Indonesian passport, it would raise even more questions that the American people need answers to. Then there is the question of forgery. There are darker ways he could have traveled to Pakistan than the one you mentioned... and easier ones. He could have traveled to another country that didn't have a problem with Pakistan and flown from there... Or he could have flown under a fake passport provided by people we don't want to know about ... Didn't Oswald fly to Russia? Not saying that what Obama did was illegal. It's unlikely... odd - if you pin it down - ping me.

There was a travel advisory about going to Pakistan, not an outright travel Ban.

Suggest you go look up US State Department Travel Advisory for Pakistan in 1981, No. 81-33A

I would like to see that too.

In 1981 the President of Pakistan was Muhummad Zia-ul-Haq an anti-communist who was aiding the Afghans against the Soviet invasion. It is highly unlikely that the United States had a travel ban in place at the time.

Travel bans are rare and usually used against the most hostile regimes (Castro’s Cuba, North Vietnam, North Korea, Red China, etc.) The US has usually had cordial or friendly relations with Pakistan. Indeed, India was friendly with the Soviets and less supportive of the US.

Things might have been more hostile during the Carter years but probably not beyond the Soviet invasion Afganistan. It certainly would have not reached the level of a travel ban extending into the Reagan years.

There was a travel advisory about going to Pakistan, not an outright travel Ban.

Exactly right. If we are going to prove 0bama's ineligibility to serve as POTUS, we have to get these things right. Here is a transcript of the actual State Department Memo addressing this topic:

Memo No. 81-33A

Passport Services/Bureau of Consular Affairs
Department of State/Washington D.C.

August 17, 1981

Travel to Pakistan

Before traveling to Pakistan, American citizens should be aware of the following updated visa requirements: 30 day visas are available at Pakistani Airpors for tourists only. As these visas are rarely extended beyond the 30 day time period, tourists planning to stay longer should secure visas before coming to Pakistan.

Any traveler coming into Pakistan overland from India must repeat must have a valid visa, as 30 day visas are not repeat not issued at the overland border crossing point at Wagha.

Any non-official American who is in Pakistan for more than 30 days must register with the government's foreigner registration office. Exit permits are required for those who have stayed longer than 30 days before they are allowed to leave the country.

All Americans traveling to Pakistan on official business or for private employment are required to have a visa before arrival, and, as the Government of Pakistan's clearance process is often lengthy, we would urge those coming to apply at the nearest Pakistani Embassy or Consulate as far in advance of their scheduled arrival as possible.

This supersedes requirements set forth in Department Publication M-264 "Visa Requirements of Foreign Governments"

Expiration Date: Indefinite.

Nonsense.

I was in Pakistan in 1979. There was nothing in 1981 that would have prevented an American from entering Pakistan other than Pakistani immigration officials.

This whole "birther" conspiracy is the wrong way to oppose Obama. If I were him, I wouldn't respond to document requests either; the Democrats benefit from the perception that the Right is populated with lunatics. The problem isn't his citizenship or his birthplace, it's his ideology.

Thank you, there was no ban.

The Legend in His Own Mind probably used a US passport. He could have used a Kenyan one has he still had Kenyan citizenship (until his 21st birthday), but I doubt he did. It would not have made any sense since a US passport was easier to get.

Each and every ‘birther’ would cease and desist tomorrow morning if 0bama would simply be as open and transparent about his personal records and history as he claimed his Administration was going to be.

No other Chief Executive in the history of our Nation has gone to such lengths and spent so much money on lawyers to keep the details of their birth, scholastic records, medical history, travel history, etc., hidden from the American people.

It is not an unreasonable question to demand that the person who is responsible for ordering our young men and women into combat where they may well shed their blood for America, to PROVE that they are Constitutionally eligible to perform that task.

What is so mindboggling to me is that Freepers can come up with so much damning evidence in favor of an investigation into Obama’s past — yet Cingress is totally mute regarding this whole affair. Do we even have a government, and if we do whose side are they on?

As a nation, we merrily allow a possible foreigner to have access to our nukes, control them, and be Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces, and government just sits there with its finger up its a—. Unf—kingbelievable!!

America, perhaps you’re not even interested in your own survival.

I guess one question is what was the name on the passport he used. When Obama applied to the Illinois bar, he swore that the only name he had ever used was Barack Hussein Obama. I suspect that the passport he used on the trip had a different legal name. And, if there was a visa, in what name was the visa issued?

You know, I have no idea what nation’s passport young Barry was traveling on in 1981, but to claim it couldn’t have been a US passport because Pakistan was on a “no travel” list of some kind is PURE CRAP.

I KNOW it is pure crap because I traveled to Pakistan in the same time frame on my US passport with no difficulty whatsoever. Not only that, but there were PLENTY of Americans there at the time, working on a myriad of projects. It wasn’t the nicest place in the world for an American, but the pay was good, and with a low profile, no more dangerous that a bunch of other places in the world where Americans toil.

Not only did I travel to Pakistan in the early 1980s, but also to Afghanistan, India, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Finland, Thailand, Indonesia, Dubai, Kuwait, Bahrain, and more. I mention this only to establish that I traveled a lot in those days, and a trip to Pakistan was not different in any way to going to any of these other places, you get a visa and go. It was NOT necessary to get any special State Department permission.

One more thing, just to clear up another possible misconception. Other countries don’t give a rat’s ass whether the US State Department have them on some sort of list when it comes to admitting visitors. What, does anyone think that when someone presents at an immigration station somewhere, the immigration official will pipe up with a “Sorry, your State Department has placed our country on a no visit list, so you can’t come in.”

That’s a laugher.

All true, but getting back in to the U.S. can be a bee-yotch if you've gone to a travel-ban country, unless you can clean that paper trail.

And, yes, I was suspicious before, and aware now, about the lack of a ban to Paki in 81.

0bamas’ hidden records: Why are these off limits?

1 Certified copy of original birth certificate
2 Columbia University transcripts
3 Columbia thesis paper
4 Campaign donor analysis requested by 7 major watchdog groups
5 Harvard University transcripts
6 Illinois State Senate records
7 Illinois State Senate schedule
8 Law practice client list and billing records/summary
9 Locations and names of all half-siblings and step-mother
10 Medical records (only the one page summary released so far)
11 Occidental College Transcripts
12 Parent’s marriage Certificate
13 Record of baptism
14 Selective Service registration records
15 Schedules for trips outside of the United States before 2007
16 Passport records for all passports
17 Scholarly articles
18 SAT and LSAT test scores
19 Access to his grandmother in Kenya
20 List of all campaign workers that are lobbyists
21 Punahou grade school records
22 Noelani Kindergarten records are oddly missing from the the State of Hawaii Department of Education.

Anyone who cares about their country would be very concerned that a POTUS had hidden every scrap of information of his life that he possibly could.

A lot of countries don’t stamp a visa in your passport, but issue you a separate travel document that is surrender when you leave the country. Pakistan wasn’t one of those, but some countries which are a bit sensitive and maybe want to reassure visitors that their stay won’t be disclosed to folks that need not know, used these separate visas. One that I know did this was the Soviet Union, and I believe it possible that Israel also issues a separate travel document.

It would depend upon what his legal name and nationality was in 1981. In 1980 he was still the adopted son of Lolo Soetoro, named Barry Soetoro, and his mother claimed in her divorce pleading that Lolo was legally obligate to continiue educational support for the son ‘beyond the age of eighteen’. So, when Barry entered Occidental college in Fall 1979, he was legally still Barry Soetoro, though we as yet do not know if he games the entry system by claiming his U.S. citizenship from before he was adopted by Lolo Soetoro and made an Indonesian citizen. We also do not know if he gamed the system by claiming his British citizenship he was born with. And I think that is the way the demcorat party wants it, hidden from public knowledge. Ancillary to that line of questrioning is why Barry had someone steal the kindergarten entry file from Hawaii ... what could have been in that file that Barry didn’t want known by the public?
