2 officers fired after Tasering parade driver, 76

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Two police officers who chased and Tasered a 76-year-old man driving a tractor in a Wyoming town parade have been fired.

Bud Grose, who was shocked five times by Officer Michael Kavenius, welcomed the decision announced Tuesday by the Glenrock Police Department.

"Hopefully this will kind of help bring the community together and be an answer to a lot of questions and problems," he said.

Kavenius shot Grose with a Taser on Aug. 1 near the end of Glenrock's annual Deer Creek Days parade. Sgt. Paul Brown was also relieved of duty.

Police say Grose, who was driving an antique tractor in the parade, disobeyed Kavenius' traffic command. That led to a short pursuit and the Taser use, which outraged some in the town of 2,400.

Good. I imagine this old codger wasn't all that impressed with some traffic cop. The traffic cop was offended and felt he needed to assert his authority.

I grew up in the midwest and around a lot of these old farmers. As I recall most of them were staunch individuals and hadn’t been trained to properly respect cops. They kinda treated cops like public servants and expected cops to treat others with respect.

he probably also couldn’t hear squat.

Cops are public servants, and should be treated as such. They think that because they get a chrome plated pistol and mirrored shades and shave their head that they become your master. Time for them to understand that they are the public servant, and that people are sick and tired of putting up with their Gestapo attitudes.

This was a town of 2600 people. Probably had one stoplight if its like where I grew up.

This was about the cop not being respected, nothing more. I’m glad to see the cops get fired but they’ll just go somewhere else where this behavior is encouraged.

I grew up in small town Kansas. Cops knew their place. People did not tolerate insolent or overbearing cops. Now we have the shave heads. It is no wonder that people despise cops. They tend to bring it upon themselves.

I remember this story and thought the cops should have been fired.

Tasered for disobeying a traffic command? Some cops aren’t fit to carry a taser, a gun, a nightstick or a badge.

Looks like officer Fife shouldn’t have been issued live batteries for his Taser.

Imagine Barney Fife with a new Taser and you know what the problem is in half the police departments in this country. They can’t wait to try out their new toy on dogs, senior citizens, or kids. Ditto for the SWAT units with their black ninja garb that covers their identity.
You don’t have to be a moron to don a badge, but it doesn’t disqualify you in many jurisdictions.

Well they have 1 cop now. Oh and the mayor has a day job. Sounds like 1 cop is more than enough

This is an important outcome to halt the overuse of tasers and the police state authority freaks who use them unnecessarily. We have to see more of this action taken against officers who mistake the US for the Soviet Union.
