Did you just hear Kucinich? {IDIOT}
Posted on 09/23/2009 1:39:57 PM PDT by ignorancerunsrampant
Speaking about the need for health care on Fox Business, he quoted Jesus. He reminded us that Jesus said, ... "when I was hungry, did you feed me? When I was sick, did you care for me?"
TOPICS: Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS: bhohealthcare; kucinich; religiousleft; wwjd
This guy might as well remind us that Jesus also said, ... "give to Ceasar [The Democrats] what is Ceasar's, and give to God what is God!"
More importantly, someone should tell the congressman that Jesus said, ... "GOD helps those who help themselves!"
To: ignorancerunsrampant
So the mythical "separation of Church and State" is only operative when convenient?

Content is everything.
The Bible also says if you don’t work, you don’t eat.

"More importantly, someone should tell the congressman that Jesus said, ... "GOD helps those who help themselves!" " I'll agree with your first sentence, but in point of fact it was Benjamin Franklin that said the second, not Jesus - FWIW.

maybe he would like to further misquote. by context, other verses of the Bible.
“Am I my brothers keeper” Cain speaking to God, after murdering his brother Abel.
Barry O. constantly misquotes the Bible saying “As the Bible says, I am my brother’s keeper”.
No you and I are not except in the vein of deceit to cover your misdeed.

St. Paul:
“For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “If a man will not work, he shall not eat.”
The 7th commandment: “You shall not steal.”
To: E. Pluribus Unum
Depends on the Church and their doctrine.

I didn’t know Jesus said that to the Roman Senate.
To: mom4melody
...and you will note that it wasn't the Roman government He was petitioning for "health care" but asking after the kindness of the individual's own charity. Jesus most certainly didn't threaten to apply additional taxes if charity wasn't fothcoming.

Actually that’s not in the Scriptures. But I do agree that Kucinich is quoting Jesus way out of the original context. It’s a stretch to take those words and infer that if you don’t follow the socialist Obama agenda that you are not following the words of our Lord Jesus. I can just as easily argue that the Obama plan will prevent me from following those commands by giving the power to the State and not allowing me as an individual to live up to the ideal behavior Jesus commands.

>> “when I was hungry, did you feed me? When I was sick, did you care for me?”
Jesus did say these things. To INDIVIDUALS. Individuals should practice charity. Voluntarily.
Government handouts are not charity. Charity is not “rob peter to pay paul”.
Jesus did NOT say, “When did you vote to have your government rob others at gunpoint to feed me and care for me?”

Jesus said: ".... when I was hungry, did you feed me? When I was sick, did you care for me?"
He did not say: ".... when I was hungry, did the government feed me? When I was sick, did the government care for me?"
The responsibility for charity rests with individuals, not with the government.

Maybe not! The saying originated from Algernon Sydney in 1698 in an article titled Discourses Concerning Government.

I agree. It would be like saying the victims of Robin Hood were very giving and charitable because they were forced to relinquish their valuables which were, in turn, given to the poor. They involunatarily fed the poor, not much virtue in that.

But I do agree that Kucinich is quoting Jesus way out of the original context. Jesus wasn't banging on Herod's door demanding that he (as the "government") feed, clothe, and heal everyone in his realm. Nor was he harassing Roman authorities over the issue. That has never been the role of Government.
My own church just helped my family with a very large insurance-not-covered health bill. THAT's the context.

2 Thess. 3:10-15 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat." 11We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies. 12Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the bread they eat. 13And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right. 14If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of him. Do not associate with him, in order that he may feel ashamed. 15Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.

Jesus did not say, “When I was hungry, did you shake down your neighbors to feed me?” “When I was thirsty, did you force fellow citizens to provide for me under threat of prison?”
Personal charity and extorting money from hardworking taxpayers are two entirely different things.

Proverbs 10I think the idea is that God does bless those who work and are diligent.
He gave us all kinds of rules to help us be happy and healthy.
Now, there are certainly times when we need charity. He provides for that, too. But in general, He highly approves and encourages us to work and be productive. That's how He made us.
That's why stealing from honest taxpayers is so sinful and leads to wretchedness among the people.

Yes Most lose the concept that every single able bodied man was taught a trade back then. The poor were truly poor.
Most were poor from disease or disabilities, famine, death of a husband and such. They were not like the poor we have today..and the poor of today would not have been poor at all back then. Jesus believed in hard work.

It’s not only Obama that misinterprets this verse, but I’ve heard too many preachers and teachers in the church screw this up, too. The answer to Cain’s question, âAm I my brother’s keeper,â is NO! Of course Cain isn’t his brother’s keeper. God isn’t even our keeper. He loves us and cares for us, but he isn’t our jailer. We aren’t our brother’s warden either. This misinterpretation is taken up by the liberals and statists. The government is NOW our keeper. There is nothing more demonic than this.
