What made this girl have such a major problem? Story could be true...or not. It is not beyond the realm of possibility. However, she is one messed up woman and always has been.

The "Even If I Could" video had pictures of Jill Gibson who briefly replaced Michelle Phillips on their 2nd album. JG was ex-girlfriend of Jan Berry and Lou Adler, the producer of the M&P's. It's never been clear which tracks Jill sang and was kept as final masters as some were erased and Michelle recorded later when she returned to the band.
That whole Hollywood area was pretty crazy in late 60's but still MUCH more friendly than what it is now. I recall the Doors playing the Whisky on Sunset and you could see almost anyone hitching a ride on Sunset or Hollywood Blvd. We were so poor for entertainment we'd walk those streets and people watch.
