FOND DU LAC - The deer a Fond du Lac man bagged has people talking all across Wisconsin. Hunters call the buck unbelievable, a freak of nature.
"For anybody to shoot a fair chase animal like that is incredible, it just doesn't happen," Duffy Munson with Dutch's Trading Post said.
But on Sunday it did for Wayne Schumacher. The avid hunter is now finding fame on the heels of a 30-pointer.
"There had to be 250 people that came through looking at it yesterday," Schumacher said. "One would call the other one, after they saw it they would call the next person and people would keep rolling in, it was awesome."
He says the attention is a bit overwhelming, but nothing compared to the moment when the deer, dubbed "Lucky Buck" crossed his path. Schumacher was hunting near Rosendale when he saw it and grabbed for his bow.
"I pulled it back and told myself you do not want to flinch on this deer," he said.

""Usually, a once-in-a lifetime deer for an average bowhunter is, honestly, about a 120-inch deer," Munson said.
"Lucky Buck" is approaching 250 inches. Official numbers will come in 60 days, but Schumacher isn't looking for accolades.

"That's nice shooting, soldier!"

(Deep bow your way!)
Holy Cow! That beats John Kerry’s record of a 16 point buck.
Going by screen name alone, I guess you know what you’re talking about!
;-)
“You don’t see a deer like that everyday. It’s amazing, it’s simply amazing,” Bill Tabbert of Fond du Lac said.

I sure wish I was young again. (But not stupid like I was, LOL!)
The last deer I shot was when I was in my mid-20’s. A nice, fat doe. Never have gotten a buck, and it’s not looking good from here...though Grandpa was still hunting until he was 90!

With a BOW, no less! That's one Steady Eddie!
While the rack is certainly impressive - really unprecedented in ANYTHING I have ever seen - the deer itself doesn't look all that massive, could be the camera angle. I would be interested to hear the weight of the buck, but I haven't seen it in any of the stories about this deer.
I’ll find you the stats, but I read that it was 251 pounds DRESSED OUT; he was a monster buck!
Yep, it was the camera angle. It’s huge.
I have a friend who had a record buck a few years back. He’s the same one that GIVES us a deer every season, so there’s no reason for me to spend all my time in the field if I can have a full freezer for a little bit of butchering!
We’re having venison ‘coins’ in onion gravy over taters for supper tonight, as a matter of fact. :)
