Is it possible to transfer songs directly from CDs to Blackberry using Mac?

Hi, sorry for the vanity. I am very Windows XP literate but not Mac literate and am posting this for a family member.

She has a BlackBerry and uses a Mac. She wants to transfer songs directly from compact discs to her Blackberry (if possible), but I'm thinking she has to first extract the songs from the CDs to iTunes and from there (iTunes) transfer the songs to her BlackBerry.

Couldn't she also just go to the iTunes store on her Blackberry and download the music directly to her BlackBerry that way? The only downside is that she would be downloading music she already owns on CDs, and be paying for the same music twice, in essence.

Are there any links you can post which would lead to Mac software to assist in doing this?

Thanks so much for your input.

I think iTunes only works with the iPod and iPhone; I don’t think it works with Blackberries. You will need to rip the songs from CD into MP3 format but I don’t know if you’ll be able to use the Blackberry as the destination for that conversion or if you need to park the files on your computer hard drive first.

Thanks, Martin. Is there a Mac app. she needs to download in order to transfer the songs from iTunes to Blackberry? She has a Blackberry CD called “Blackberry User Tools” but it’s only for Windows.

The new BlackBerry Desktop Manager software allows Mac users to smoothly and seamlessly sync data from Mac applications like iCal, Address Book, Microsoft Entourage and others, as well as add and remove applications, schedule automatic backups, encrypt backup files and install software updates for their BlackBerry smartphone.
BlackBerry Desktop Manager Software also integrates BlackBerry Media Sync, enabling Mac users to sync their iTunes music collections with their BlackBerry smartphone. From within the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software, users simply select the desired iTunes playlists and the music, including song information and album art, is quickly transferred onto their BlackBerry smartphone.
