Trailer for "The Pacific", the HBO series on the war in the Pacific during WWII
(Excerpt) Read more at hbo.com ...
I believe that this movie is based on the book “With the Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa” by EB Sledge. It is a great book, drawn from contemporaneous notes by an enlisted Marine. It is better than any war novel I have ever read.
I look forward to this movie.
“I believe that this movie is based on the book With the Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa by EB Sledge.”
I’ve read that plus the one after that, “China Marine”. Sledge’s entire life story is amazing.
The Pacific is actually a 10 hour mini-series so hopefully lots of great viewing to look forward to seeing in a few months.
Why don’t they make a movie about the Revolutionary war? The Green Mountain Boys? Nathan Hale?
It’s what Americans really need to see right now.
I mean an honest movie, not some Howard Zinn socialist revisionist piece of garbage.
That's exactly why they won't. If anyone makes one, it'll be called right-wing propaganda by the left.
My Dad’s ship the USS Mississippi was at Peleliu, Leyte Gulf, and Okinawa, struck twice by Kamikazes. I wish he had lived long enough to see this film.
I don’t get HBO, but as soon as it comes on DVD, I am buying it.
“I mean an honest movie, not some Howard Zinn socialist revisionist piece of garbage.”
If Hanks and Spielberg are true to EB Sledge’s book even a little bit it isn’t going to be a socialist piece of garbage. And they did okay with Band of Brothers.
HBO did “John Adams” last year, does that count?
So? Does calling college professors left wing propagandists stop them from brainwashing American youth?
If we tell the reason for the Revolution it will ring true to every American.
Why let the leftists have the only access to America’s next generation?
They probably don’t think it would make a lot of money.
Hanks and Speilberg? LOL if you want the globalist’s not so hidden agenda, these are the fellows.
Doesn’t Hanks produce a television show about plural marriage? Didn’t he star in an anti-Christian movie about the life of Jesus? And Spielberg? What are you thinking?
“Hanks and Speilberg? LOL if you want the globalists not so hidden agenda, these are the fellows...”
That’s the really great thing about TV. Nobody can make you watch anything you don’t want to watch.
I agree, Sledge’s (RIP) book is a masterpiece. Another great one is Quartered Safe Out Here by the late George Macdonald Fraser, creator of Harry Paget Flashman. Fraser was a nineteen year soldier who fought under General Slim in Burma. To me these are the two greatest memoirs written by grunts in WW II.
Yet a book called ‘common sense’ based on the original by Thomas Paine is a best seller.
Do ya think that the globalist’s who own this company are trying to influence American thought against Individualism and Individual rights?
It wouldn’t be the first time.
Since Al Gore’s Telecommunications Act of 1996 allowed foreign ownership of media outlets, the anti American bent of the entertainment industry has become nauseating. But they are getting what they paid for and Americans are getting trashed because Independence and Individualism and Property Rights for citizens gets in the way of the global looting of the American economy and the theft of American’s livelihoods through “free trade”.
I sure hope you’re not defending that.
Looks very good...
That’s the really great thing about television.
For less discerning indivudals, they can completely brainwash them into socialist monsters. And they vote when helped by Acorn.
There are more of them than there are loyal patriotic Americans, just take the election of Obama as a proof.
No other country has such an anti citizen perspective. Have you noticed? How can a country and culture survive, when it is regularly demonized to the voting citizenry? This is not a rhetorical question. However you have the course of history to disprove (marixist elected president) if you plan to argue against me.
About two years ago the History Channel had an excellent multi part documentary on the Revolution.
I really, really hope that they dont add too much sissy la la BS and tell the story that EB Sledge wrote.
Not the ‘history channel’. You’ve got to be kidding. They put out as left a view of history as the renowned socialist Howard Zinn.
They trashed General Washington, and made a piece of garbage about the Adams.
Go get a history book written before the 1950s. You have to go back pretty far to get real historical accounts and not ‘interpretative’ historical works they teach in school.
This will be showing when my son is deployed to Afghanistan with the Corps. It is amazing how there are always brave men willing to sacrifice their lives for our dear country.
have you seen the series I referred to?
“I really, really hope that they dont add too much sissy la la BS and tell the story that EB Sledge wrote.”
From what I’ve read they are making it fairly true to the way he wrote it. The series is also based on another book, Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie. I haven’t read that one.
There is no foreign control of Media in the US... I think you are mistaken.
I cannot wait. BOB is one of my favorites of all times. Dad was in the 101st (Vietnam and stateside), so we are especially fond of it. Of course, ex was a Marine, so I spent time as a Marine wife, and the Marine Corps hymn brings tears to my eyes every time...
The first clip I thought it interesting... they used the sound track from The Passion of Christ. (The Resurrection scene.)
I thought that curious.
“hope that they dont add too much sissy la la BS”
Me, too. Trailer looks like the thing could possibly be subtitled “Scared, wounded, Marines who cry.”
Would love to see movies about George Rogers Clark's western campaign, to say nothing of Francis Marion and the campaign in the South.
I thought the HBO series on Adams was actually pretty good.
I believe you’re right about Leckie’s book also being used.
I’m definitely looking forward to the release.
Semper Fi
I hate seeing these previews on TV already. They were showing them as early as July I want to say. I’m excited to see this, but it still won’t air for a long time.
Inot doing anything of the sort, I just said they probably don’t think it would make money, and that is what they are all about. If they thought it would make money to do something different, then they probably would.

I hope so...they did good with Band of Brothers.
Yeah...the Generation Kill previews looked more Ooorah! to this old gyrene!
A movie capturing the Battle of Bunker Hill would be terrific.
Such a shame its likely never to pass.
It’s based on two books, both mentioned in comments.
Helmet for My Pillow starts, iirc, shortly before the war and goes through Guadalcanal and Cape Gloucester.
With the Old Breed starts just after Cape Gloucester with replacements joining up, then goes through Peleliu and Okinawa.
Good grief. What’s w/ all the moralizing and scenes of non-combatant namby pamby nonsense? Granted, BofB is a tough yardstick to measure up against, but I hope they don’t totally ruin this.
Not sure if it’s been posted, I’m swamped this week and haven’t looked thru all pings but this one is cool, google “Staffordshire treasure”

Thanks tutstar. It’s been posted, so my thanks for not posting another topic. :’) It’s a pretty cool find, natural that people duplicated effort a little. :’)
