Sources tell ET that the actor was brought in by ambulance to the emergency room at a Manhattan hospital, wearing an oxygen mask and with numerous tubes visible.

The 73-year-old Hollywood icon has been nominated for an Oscar twice -- for co-writing 1969's 'Easy Rider,' and for acting in 1986's 'Hoosiers.'

The man’s enlarged my mind. He’s a poet-warrior in the classic sense...I’m a little man, I’m a little man, he’s... he’s a great man. I should have been a pair of ragged claws scuttling across floors of silent seas...

A tweet I just read said he was rushed with severe respritory problems. Another says tubes were seen coming out of his body and hooked up to oxygen and another said he was conscious but in serious condition not critical.

I flipped on Morning Joe just before ten this morning and they said that Dennis Hopper was supposed to be on the show but was not able to (and alluded that he wasn’t well which I took by one or two smirks to mean that perhaps he was perhaps under the influence)
