The world ravaged by fires, earthquakes, meteor showers and floods and a heroic struggle for survivors.
It sounds like something straight out of Hollywood - and it is. This is the first glimpse of the latest U.S. blockbuster, 2012.
John Cusack leads an all-star cast, featuring Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Woody Harrelson, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Amanda Peet struggling to stay alive when the Earth is threatened with the biggest disaster man has ever known.

Disaster begins to spread across the Earth at a rapid pace with Brazil's beautiful Rio de Janeiro submerged under the ocean.
The city's iconic Christ the Redeemer statue is seen crumbling into dust as it is surrounded by fish and stingrays.
Addendum: I have found it generally to be a safe assumption that any movie with ‘Woody Harrelson’ in it is one I can avoid without any loss including my own money and sanity.
The preview of that movie is so far over the top I literally was laughing at the theatre.
I always love it when the natural carnage CHASES the star of a movie from behind.
Of special note is the sequence where the entire earth is falling away from the airplane. I nearly died when the pilot chooses to fly between to collapsing buildings when he seemed to have time to go around. This movie could be the biggest comedy (on accident) IN YEARS !!!
So you won’t be seeing “zombie land” either?
Another one to miss.
Another one to miss.
Guess I am jaded but I can’t watch movies like this one anymore. I may rent it from the dollar machine at McDonalds, though.
“John Cusack leads an all-star cast, featuring Danny Glover..., Woody Harrelson”
Yeesh, isn’t there a limit on the number of leftist ultra-kooks allowed per movie? I mean, even for Hollyweird?
Disclaimer: I do enjoy Cusack’s acting, just nothing he does off stage. Harrelson and Glover do nothing for me.
I try to avoid anything named Woody, in general. See what I mean...?

It’s a digital effects orgy. The trailer has an airplane almost at street level, dodging falling buildings. NO. The pilot would climb ABOVE all that stuff.
It’s the Day After Tomorrow on steroids. Just laugh along with the audience and don’t spend more than a matinee ticket.
I try never to miss a Chiwetel Ejiofor movie.
Obama’s 2nd term?
It won't happen.
Palin will win, and deny Obama 4 more years.
I actually like movies like this... Independence Day is one of my fav’s....... just pure fantasy movies...
Woody Harrelson - "The warmongers who stole the White House... have hijacked a nation's grief and turned it into a perpetual war on any non-white country they choose to describe as terrorist."
Danny Glover - "The progressive movement against the war of occupation in Iraq is a reason for hope, as is resistance to free trade agreements in Latin America."
John Cusack - "I'm saying I don't want that [bleep] Bush in the White House"
This one has to be stinker. I wouldn't watch these a$$holes for $787 billion.
Chiwetel Ejiofor?
Here’s an anecdote about “Independence Day”.....
During the summer of 1996, Bob Dole took a break from his campaign schedule while visiting Los Angeles and he attended a showing of “Independence Day” at a movie theater in Hollywood with one of his campaign staffers.
When exiting the theater, a reporter asked Senator Dole what he thought of the movie. “It was a good movie,” Dole replied. “Alot of people died....”
Dole’s aid immediately quipped to the reporter, “Alot of LIBERALS!”
Hmmmm.....he must have been referring to the scenes in the movie showing the alien destruction of New York, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
Read the book Earth Abides by George Stewart.
Much more believable.
Clover is a scumbag who I have loathed since he said GWB executed many black and Hispanic men when he was governor. Oh really? I thought juries and judges sentenced murderers to death. Clover buys into this nonsense that these were just innocent victims of racism apparently. Like that is the only reason they got executed.
How odious these people are. The damage they have done to this country is incalculable.
that's weird ... I'm reading this book. Ish's description of the overpopulation of ants and other "man" based animals is pretty interesting.
It’s truly a great book.
~LOL~ good story.
(from one pic caption in a British paper)
>>as a huge earthquake hits the jammed streets of Los Angeles
Hey, are there shots of the movie studios in Hollywood crumbling to the ground as actors and executives flee in terror? I think I’d stand up and cheer that part! NO MORE
LIB MOVIES!
I saw that preview and immediately said that has got to be the stupidist and most OTT piece of crap to come out in years. None of it was remotely believable. I can suspend belief if the story is good, but this looks down right insulting to a person’s intelligence.
Me, I’m looking forward to COD: 6, 11-10-09. That rocks.
Check out the movie Redbelt. He was excellent in it.
I’d rather watch Panic in Year Zero!
Wimpy John Cusack as the lead actor in a big budget disaster movie. Yeah. That’ll be believable.
I think everything Cusack did up until Hi Infidelity was great. Everything since has sucked.
Interesting review. Lead character is divorced. President Danny Glover with no mention of a first lady. Also divorced?
Independence Day ... Goldblum’s character was divorced, Smith’s character was engaged to/married an exotic dancer.
Day After Tomorrow ... another divorced/separated couple in lead roles.
Okay ... I know divorce is overly common in today’s world, but Hollywood seems to be thinking this is the standard.
But regarding 2012 ... it does look laughable. I won’t pay theater prices to see this one.
Now that's a real shame when folks be throwin' away a perfectly good white boy like that.
the description of old age and the passing of time was amazing. It was like the The Death of Ivan Ilych. I really like the way Ish tried to keep the "old ways" but the realism of how "real" people don't necessarily want to "learn" or "are curious" was melancholy and so true.
I was wondering if somehow the small generators or solar that is available now would change his view of rebuilding.
whatever happens to the nukes? I just had more questions about the other places. It was just a great book, you are right.
I just discovered he played “the Operative” in _Serenity_. An excellent actor! Sounds like he needs a new agent, though.
Danny Glover protested on behalf of Gary Graham, a man sentenced to death after he went on a murder spree. One of his victims survived a gunshot to the face (in his own car).
So it's a computer cartoon with some actors pasted into it.
