The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has stripped Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio of his authority to arrest suspected illegal immigrants based solely on their immigration status.
But Arpaio said Tuesday he plans to continue his controversial “crime suppression operations,” despite DHS’s decision to not renew an agreement that would allow the sheriff to continue immigration enforcement on the streets.
“It’s all politics,” said Arpaio, who spent much of an afternoon news conference Tuesday wagging his finger, waving his arms and snarling at reporters.

I would say the Dems just assured they won’t carry Arizona in 2010.
Another example of how Homeland Security is a joke and how myopic W was in creating it. Of course it was going to be abused this way when Dems took over. Any source of power always is and that is why Republicans should ALWAYS work to limit the power of the federal government.
KFYI played some comments from the Maricopa County BOS today. One of those dildoes actually said, “The ‘hispanics’ were here first. If you don’t like it, then leave.” I have a lot of Indian friends who would not agree with this jackass. I wish they had said who the moron was that said that.
Knowing Joe, if the feds try to stop him, he’ll arrest them for interfering in police business.

If the DHS is going to continue to refuse to do its job, the American people need to demand that it be shut down ASAP. America can not longer afford to have its money wasted this way.

A hispanic, 15 year-old kid or some 50 something illegal from central america or mexico, was NOT HERE FIRST.

Can a county sheriff enforce federal laws? It’s either yes or no. All or none.
If not, can I commit a federal crime in my town and get away with it unless a federal agent catches me?
Arpaio should ask for a list of all the crimes that he’s allowed to enforce and all those he’s forbidden from enforcing. If the feds are foolish enough to provide him with a list, he should post in on the internet for all to see. If they refuse to provide a list, Arpaio should continue along with business as usual.
Arrest, book, try, convict, deport. “Next...”
Sheriff Joe doesn’t need fed authority and he knows it. The fed can get bent.
Actually, Arpaio, as sheriff is the authority there, not the feds.
SInce when do the feds think they can demand that an elected law enforcement official NOT enforce the law? Since this bunch of mobsters took over in DC?
