Meleanie Hain, the pistol-carrying Lebanon mom who received national attention for taking a loaded gun to her daughter’s soccer game, was shot to death Wednesday night with her husband in an apparent murder-suicide, police said.

Hain, 31, and her husband, Scott, 33, were pronounced dead by Lebanon County Coroner Dr. Jeffrey Yocum shortly after 8:30 p.m. at their home at Second Avenue and East Grant Street, police said.

National attention? Never heard of her.

Well, she HAD gotten it back. She probably just didn’t have time to use it. I didn’t find any details on what exactly happened.

Cops probably reached that conclusion based on prior calls of domestic disturbance and body position.

I didn't see any mention in the article that the cops concluded anything. Maybe I missed it. I only see murder-suicide with no mention of who the murderer is.

The husband had left on Tuesday night, and came back Wednesday. He apparently shot her and then killed himself.

“Several neighbors said they heard or saw the couple’s children run from the house screaming, “Daddy shot Mommy!” shortly before the 911 Center was called at 6:20 p.m.

The children, 2- and 6-year-old girls and a 10-year-old boy, were in the care of a neighbor and were unhurt, said Wright.” http://ydr.inyork.com/ci_13510354

That doesn’t specify who the shooter was. If she shot herself, she was still shot.

Yes...one is a murderer who committed suicide, and one is a victim. To me, it's not immediately apparent who should get the sympathy.

Upcoming CNN/MSNBC translation: If she were not a supporter of the 2nd amendment, she would be alive and happily married.

Lebanon where? I really, really, really wish that FReepers would just add the state identifier in parenthesis in these stories from local newspapers. In their original context, everyone knows where “Lebanon” is. But when you put it on a national website, we don’t. And often even if one goes to the link, one can’t find out because there’s no hint in the original story because it’s in a local newspaper or on a local TV site and they don’t need to and don’t mention the state.

I didn’t bother to go to the link for this one. I’m tired of going to the link only to be unable to figure it out. Perhaps this one would have offered the necessary information.

But why can’t people just put the state abbreviation in parenthesis in the FR headline???????

Well, as far as I can see, the "spin" on the story would differ greatly depending on who was the murderer:

Scenario A) Crazy gun-toting mother who thinks citizens deserve to have the right to keep and bear arms goes berzerk, kills husband then herself. We need to ban guns.

Scenario B) Woman afraid of abusive husband realizes that she needs to defend herself. She does her best, but in the end the guy gets her and then kills himself.

As far as I know (which is little) Scenario B is a lot closer to the truth -- but the media would sure love to see Scenario A.

So, yeah, it makes a difference who did the shooting.

Hold on a sec. I think I can still make a case that we don't can't be sure who the perp was....isn't it theoretically possible that SHE was the perp and HE was the victim? Maybe not likely, but based on the text of the story, isn't it possible?

The story only mentions an apparent murder-suicide as far as I can tell. It doesn't mention who the murderer was and who the "suicider" was.

That was my take on it, too.

It shouldn’t be hard for the cops to figure out who died second, and was therefore the killer/suicider.

I believe the reason they left out ‘who done it’ is they want us to assume she (the gun toting mom) did it. However, I agree with your ‘B’ scenario.

I agree with you. I read the article twice because I wasn't sure who killed who.

Scenario C) What if they both were licensed to carry, The anti gun folks will say there is a problem with the approval process.

In addition, I wish Freepers would stop posting local news in the Breaking News section. If local domestic disputes are worthy of Breaking News, then how about the large pothole at the end of my driveway?
