Tiny 'nuclear batteries' unveiled
BBC ^ | 10/8/09

Researchers have demonstrated a penny-sized "nuclear battery" that produces energy from the decay of radioisotopes.

As radioactive substances decay, they release charged particles that when properly harvested can create an electrical current.

Nuclear batteries have been in use for military and aerospace applications, but are typically far larger.

The University of Missouri team says that the batteries hold a million times as much charge as standard batteries.

so what we need is a graphic of a mutant energizer bunny.

So what does this mean if I want to mount an electric motor on my bike? I could set it to go for a while without having to charge the batteries, or beat out traffic on a main highway?

The possibilities...

Oh! This will never do (according to the same crowd that banned DDT, thereby condemning thousands to death by starvation)!

Duh.. uh, NO NOOKS, DUDE! (/scarasm)

Awesome, I want it! But recharging will be a bitch.

Yes and Yes. Just be careful not to park it near pets.

Don’t worry, be happy! This will never come to market, and if does will only be sold overseas, just like the evil nuclear power plants - we like living under brown out conditions.

We will not be allowed to use this sort of highly dangerous material in our homes - but why then do we have to use light blubs with mercury in them?

Lunacy 101.

Beta Decay light elements are as harmless as an electrical socket. (Beta Decay is basically a neutron in the nucleus of an atom turning into a electron and a Proton, the proton stays in the core of the atom, the electron gets ejected and can be absorbed by metal or a semi-conductor material to “Make” electricity. ) Beta Decay cannot be used to breed other radioactive elements.

As long as they decay into a stable or long stability isotope they should be classifies as safe as gasoline.

The tin foil that Alex Jones fans wear on their heads is all of the protection that you need against them.

Sulfur-35 is practically inert compared to the stuff in your smoke detectors (Am231).

I say we use all of the radioactive waste heavy elements to breed Massive amounts of Sulfur-35 to use it in place of diesel electric generators for the millitary.

We shouldn’t let any isotopes go to waste. Waste not want not, right?

Just like irradiation of food, used in Europe, banned in the USA. We only seem to want to emulate Europe on their shitty ideas and not their good or reasonable ideas.

The isotope used, Sulfur-35 is 100x safer than the mercury in you CFL bulbs. But the greenies are soo stupid they are brainless and can’t tell the difference between Beta decay and Gamma decay of radioactive isotopes.

Sure they could, but then that would not allow them to come back later and demand more money to clean up the mess - since it was GWB’s fault in the first place.

The possibilities, indeed! I wonder if they could scale them up to power our cars? I’d love never to fill up again, thereby putting money in some sheik’s pocket. Just swap out my nuclear batteries every 5 or 10 years. Or civilian and military aircraft? The mind boggles (however, jumping to conclusions has gotten me into trouble before).
