I have some liberal friends who readily acknowledge that the people who do the most for legitimately protecting and preserving wildlife hsbitats are the hunters and fishers. And largely on their own dime and their own time. This in an area where there is a deer overpopulation problem. This will go over really big with them.

Can't speak to the anglers but the economy has literally destroyed the yacht companies here in South Jersey. To my knowledge only one of the companies is still building yachts in my region of the state. ...and that one has a very large inventory of yachts they can not sell.

Last year my brother ran a line at one of the companies with a crew of 40 men. None of them are presently working there now. They are hoping for an uptake in about six months.

I have some relatives in MI and know it’s a huge employer...I would think that once you add in all the preipherals i.e. fishing lodges, boat dealers/rentals, charters, etc. you’re talking big $$. A lot like here in southern LA...except more ice and less ‘gators :-)

Just the directly sportfishing related revenue alone is some 4 billion dollars in Michigan from what I can tell. That’s just the tax revenue that go into state coffers.

My brother inlaw and his sons(my newphews) are all avid fishermen. They are also big time Donks and Obama supporters. It loooks tome like they are getting what they deserve.

Reminds me of the 1800s in England where millions of subjects were thrown off their land and the lands were possesed by the local royalty. No one could hunt or fish the lands and the locals subjects starved and became a source of cheap labor.

The same happened back in the mid-late 80’s when the administration levied a tax on all yachts over $100,000. The inductry suffered and Con-gress was forced to look for other ways to overtax those who owned those vessels.
