Nothing brings a smile to an adult's face quicker than the sight of a happy, chubby baby.

But the sight of 4-month-old Alex Lange, who measures 25-inches long and weighs 17 pounds, is bringing a frown to the hypothetical face of insurance company Rocky Mountain Health Plans, The Denver Post reported on its Web site Monday.

You would think health insurance companies would try to be less stupid when legislation that would put them out of business is up for consideration.

Our little grandson was a VERY CHUBBY baby. He weighed about 25 lbs. at 1 year old..and kept getting bigger. We were concerned. His parents are tiny. In fact, my stepson is one of those guys who you look at and you can’t understand how all their vital organs can fit in such a small frame? Anyway, as he gets older and more active he’s getting more in line to kids his size. He has a brother (not my stepson’s child), who is a perfectly normal 10 year old. His mom says he was BIGGER than his brother..so I’m no longer worried. Sometimes these things just work themselves out.

Well then your thinking is wrong, and you should admit it. I hope your insurance company finds something wrong with you, however slight, to deny you coverage. Then you’ll be singing a different tune.

No one is denied insurance - my daughter was denied going on to my less expensive plan due to volleyball injuries in HS and so they sent me a letter with a more expensive option that covers anyone and everyone.

A friend of my parents grandson was huge when he was “little”. They called him Moose because of his size. I saw Moose this last summer. He was a 6’ slender healthy 25 yr old. I think 4 mos is a little early to put them on a diet.

My oldest son was larger than this baby at 4 months. At (just turned) five years old he is the tallest boy in his class and wears 6 slim pants.

His 4 month old brother weighed 10 lbs at birth, and is 26.5 inches and 18 lbs. I have every reason to believe he will be as tall, healthy, and slender as his brother at 5 and beyond.

I don’t. A chunky baby does not mean fat kid. A friend’s last two kids, a boy and girl, were two of the biggest babies I’ve ever seen. Now, at ages 3 and 7, they are skinny little rug rats. Must have been that breast milk. LOL.

You would think health insurance companies would try to be less stupid when legislation that would put them out of business is up for consideration.

It seems like actuarial tables rule the day at the expense of common sense.

But don't doubt that the insurance companies stand to make a killing from whatever bill passes. They have spent a whole lot of money buying legislation that is profitable to them. That's why they are freaking out now that states might be allowed to opt out of the "everyone has to buy insurance" thing.

That's one of the two scenarios in which they don't make money. The other is single payer. They still make money with a public option as long as everyone is forced to buy. But they don't make as much money, so they are spending money to campaign against that.

The companies are playing both sides against the middle. Don't doubt it. Those corporations are not your small government friend.

Chubby babies are very healthy and that extra fat is good for brain development plus most babies lose the fat once they start walking. It is completely untrue that fat babies = fat adults.

I think 25lbs. is not too huge for a 1 yr. old. I have 2 nephews. One is 3 yrs. old and weighs about 25lbs.. He has a 1 yr. old brother who weighs 20lbs.. I think I have the nos. right. The 1 yr. old is in the 95th percentile for height and 60th percentile for weight. The 3yo is in the 10th for height and doesn’t even show up on the weight chart.

I know they’re supposed to triple their birth weight at 1yo.. So, if they weigh just shy of 9lbs. at birth, 25lbs. at 1 seems like a good wt.. My brother and sister-in-law were investigated by the state because of the first baby’s inability to gain wt.. I was also always a thin child, but as an adult, I’m a totally normal 5’6” 112lbs..

Not always.

I was 33 lbs. at a year, a true rolley-polley if you ever saw one.

I grew into a skinny kid, a skinny young teen, a skinny young adult, and a skinny adult.

At 5'9", I weighed a whopping 132 lbs. on my wedding day.

Sixteen years later, I weigh 148 lbs, but having a few kids and the onset of menopause will do that to you.

_______________

Agreed.

These folks weren’t demanding a gov’t hand out or some gov’t program, they were trying to do the right thing in the private sector.

Gov’t programs have bureaucrats who screw things up but private sector has the same. And they are as arrogant and unconcerned as any gov’t worker ever was.

Reform is needed. We should get ahead of this and be more of a voice in shaping the plan.

I used to know a little girl who was about as pretty as they come. She was petite, five feet tall and weighed 100 lbs.

One day I looked at her birth certificate and was surprised that she weighed over 9 lbs. at birth. Not a huge baby but really large considering how small she grew up to be.

That old menopause will get you. I weighed 89 pounds when I was 14 years old. I weighed 127 pounds the day I had my daughter and she weighed 8 pounds. When I left the hospital after delivering her I weighed 103 pounds. I'm 5'6". I maintained a weight of 116 pounds until I hit 50 and started going through menopause. I now weigh 150 pounds at 55 years old and need to shed 30 pounds. The funny thing is that I don't look fat. I exercise, lift weights, ride a bike and stay active. This picture was taken last Saturday at Bark in the Park day. I took my Bloodhound pup and he's over 100lbs at 18 months old.

I was a former chubby - okay, "husky" or "solid" - all my life, grew up into a consistently 25 lbs. too fat adult, got way fatter during the baby years, and finally decided through exercise and eating less to lose it. I'm now not overweight at age 46.

How's that?

True, but that isn’t what you said:

>> it’s not really my problem if somebody else is denied coverage.

And “Charity” is perhaps not as “voluntary” as you might think. For those who want to escape hellfire, Charity is actually a way of life. Refer Matt 25:31-46:

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

I am. It is, but that’s the way it is. I run 3mi/day, 5 days/week and weight train 2 days. My body wants to be 112lbs. I read once in Tennis magazine that a woman should be 100lbs. for the first 5ft. of height and either 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5lbs. for every inch of ht. past that, depending of bone frame. For my frame, 2lbs. is good. I am thin, but I do most definitely still look like a woman and am at 17% body fat. I read a fitness blog where all the women (ages late teens through late 60s) are all into ‘eating clean’ and ‘lifting heavy’. It’s weird to me that they all strive to be at 10 and 12% body fat. It takes 14% to menstruate, 17% to nurture a pregnancy. I don’t think it’s healthy or wise to strive for such low nos.. But there’s no talking to the fitness fiends.

Babies are supposed to be fat for their brain development, but if a kid doesn’t gain wt. and his drs. determine that his hormone profiles are normal, then what can the parents do? On the flip side, if a 4 mo. old is a chunky, little monkey, I don’t think his parents ought to be penalized.
