RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- In its search for fugitives, the FBI has begun using facial-recognition technology on millions of motorists, comparing driver's license photos with pictures of convicts in a high-tech analysis of chin widths and nose sizes.
The project in North Carolina has already helped nab at least one suspect. Agents are eager to look for more criminals and possibly to expand the effort nationwide. But privacy advocates worry that the method allows authorities to track people who have done nothing wrong.

And so where is the ACLU? weren’t they the ones saying Bush couldn’t spy on people’s library cards?
And am I to assume turning over your medical records to the government so the snoops can go through them is OK with the ACLU? What does ACLU stand for again?

Who are these privacy advocates, and who pays for them to do their advocatin'?
I think of myself as a privacy advocate of sorts, but somehow recognizing people who have committed criminal acts doesn't fall under my privacy umbrella.

LOL ... you suggesting we all try this
I’d recognize that burka anywhere.
Knowing N.J., this license is probably legit!
The information will go to Holders’ Black Panthers
and the other groups just funded with billions
to stop white and conservative potential voters.
That's fine but what they are doing here is "recognizing" pictures that have some similarity to another picture which may or may not have been taken under similar conditions as the file photos. Even DMV pics aren't taken with rigorous attention to exact distance to the camera and head angle and so on and so forth.
Hopefully the computer won't match your file photo for one of an armed and dangerous felon they are looking for because they tend to make those kinds of arrests like a ton of bricks.
The bottom line here is that they aren't "recognizing people who have committed criminal acts" they are computer matching photos from a file base of all citizens who drive.
