Freeper Concerns
Me | 10-13-2009 | azkathy

Posted on 10/13/2009 7:55:02 AM PDT by azkathy

I did a bunch of Internet work on Thursday evening and Friday last week, then went out of town.

When I returned on Sunday I could smell a man's cologne in my kitchen and could tell someone had been in my home while I was gone.

Nothing was stolen or missing, but I checked with my neighbor who is a retired cop from NY City to see if he noticed any activity at my house.

As a matter of fact, his dogs were barking Sunday night and he looked in my driveway to see if my son's truck was there. It wasn't, but he saw my kitchen light go on and off twice. (This confirmed that someone was there.)

I posted on Twitter, FR and facebook in addition to conservative outpost and Smart Girl Politics about the lack of media coverage for the Obama court case and the lack of a free press in America on Friday!

I think I made someone mad and I want to know if any other freepers have had strange experiences lately?

The odds are incredibly slim that it has anything to do with your internet activity.

Agree. At the worse, post #4 might be on to something.

Did you leave any windows, etc. unlocked. Any friends have keys? If not, do 1-5 at post #11. I would add "change locks". Have a handgun? If not, look into that aspect.

Mebbe I watch to many "Forensics Fies" but there are a LOT of weirdos out there and the guy may have been casing your place for a return visit.

Even though you will probably face the "nutty woman" response from the cops, let them know. Others might be reporting the same thing.

Your source is at least a week old. This was all over Drudge, FR, WND, and Hot Air last week.

I think you may be just a tad over the edge on this one

I do live alone.

I was very active fighting the environMental movement for a few years. (I had a family crisis that stopped my activism.) My only son shot himself in the face with a 12 gauge shotgun and that took me out of the loop for a few years, as you can imagine.

I started being active again a couple of months ago when I got laid off. I have a new job now, but some of my old research has paid off and some of the people I used to check into now work for/with Obama.

One man that I used to work with on the activism disappeared. He actually used to post on here but then when I couldn’t get in touch with him, I checked with another friend of mine and as it turned out he couldn’t get in touch with him either. (Now that friend has been out of contact as well.)

I do live alone. I have a pit/lab mix and a little barky dog. I carry a gun and believe in Gun rights! The neighbor didn’t know about my activism until yesterday after the conversation about seeing if he had noticed any activity at my house while I was gone. Retired cops pay attention when the dogs bark and then he noticed the light go on and off-twice.

I have an ex husbund but he doesn’t have a key. I called my son immediately to see if he had been there. He was on the phone with me while I checked my house with gun drawn. I know he would have told me if he had been there, given that I was going through my house with the gun checking closets.

I have a deputy sheriff across the street and he came and checked the attic for me. Nothing stolen, just weird.

You can buy cheap, simple and easy to use cameras off of ebay or at Radio Shack. The best thing I’ve seen lately is a camera that phones your cell phone(or even multiple phones) with a real time picture of the intruder. you can even use it in your car or at work. you buy the camera and subscribe to the service annually.

But the best thing is to trust your gut. If you feel uneasy there is a good possibility that you are right. If it safer to be prepared and be wrong than to be right and not be prepared.

And by all means, if you don’t have a handgun, buy one and learn how to use it.

I have learned to trust my gut instinct.

A man who infiltrated Earthfirst once told me the louder and more often you speak out the safer you are! I tend to agree with him.

I just wanted to tell fellow freepers the story, get some feedback and see what the consensus is. (If I discounted it and then something happened, I would really be stupid now wouldn’t I?)

Kathy I’m glad you posted about this. You’ve gotten some good advice from some. We’re certainly living in dangerous times and we need to support each other......no matter how ‘trivial’ or ‘paranoid’ your concerns may sound to some. If your gut says ‘something stinks’....you’re better off voicing it rather than ignoring it.

Thank you for the support.

Some have wanted to tell me, that it’s no big deal on this thread. (However, I got two phone calls from complete strangers today who read the information that I posted on the internet and had never heard of it before.) Must be doing something right, getting the court case out there and helping Americans understand what is going on.

They tend to agree that our “free press” must not be so “free” when they do NOT cover the case.

We as American citizens have had to show our birth certificate on numerous occasions. If he has nothing to hide, just show the birth certificate and be done with it. Hmmm oh yea, he has had months to do that but refuses. What does that say?

When I was quite young, single and working at a certain type of job on various shifts; I came home to my apartment and smelled a certain smell that did not belong to me nor did it pertain to anything in my household.

I mentioned it to a friend.

He got off work an hour before me and I gave him my key.

He was snoozing in a chair waiting for me to get to my apartment whereas I would make breakfast when I got there.

Lo and behold, more than a scent woke him up.

It was a man who did not belong there at all. He said he was doing “maintenance” at the apartments and I had a light out.

Well, I didn’t have a light out and I reported him to the management.

Never happened again.

Thanks Cindy.

I have had my locks changed and my son has been staying with me. Plus I have alerted all my neighbors.

I have discovered that several email contacts have been deleted from my computer. (I might not have noticed except that one was my ex sister-in-law and two were congressmen that I know personally.)

You’re welcome Kathy.

Now here’s your next step.

Contact your local police (or sheriff’s department if you are in the county).
File a “suspicious circumstances” report.
Ask for the report number and keep that number for reference.
If it’s not a formal report; ask the dispatcher for the dispatch reference number (sometimes called a CAD number).
Ask for extra patrol (ie extra patrols of the neighborhood).

If you aren’t a gun owner yet; consider becoming one.

God bless you.

P.S. Changing locks, having someone stay with you and alerting your neighbors are all very good steps you have taken.

Yes, I notified the city police yesterday. You are right about getting the report number. I will call and get that today.
I did ask for extra patrols and I emailed the cop that was here last night and thanked him for watching my house. (I figured if they are watching my emails they might as well know I have extra eyes on me now, besides theirs.)
I also own a gun and keep it nearby now.
Plus I am going to write an article about gun rights and women’s safety.

Opinion:

All good ideas and sounds like you’re on the right track.

Remember to follow all gun laws (including a license for CCW if you decide to CCW; gun registration, and any other local/state laws which apply to gun ownership).
