DELTA — A 10-year-old boy was severely mauled by his family's pit bull yesterday, but did not suffer life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

The boy's name was unavailable last night. He was attacked by the family pit bull when he walked into his home in the 9000 block of Fulton County Road 11 about 5 p.m. with a computerized baby doll from school, County Dog Warden Peter Skeldon said.

“The baby started crying, and when that happened, the pit bull attacked,” Mr. Skeldon said.

The boy suffered bites to his face, an arm, a leg, and his back, the dog warden said.

Can't wait until the pit bull defenders come on here to blame the baby.

Like raising a lion cub in your household … cute and fun, but still a primeval predator. Too many generations of breading for fighting to be in the neighborhood of small children.

I wanna know why this 10 year kid has a computerized baby doll. These are used to simulate to young teens what its like to have a baby. (2am feedings and the like.) Isnt this kid just a little young for that? Shouldnt he be out playing tag or something?

When I was a kid, my friend had to carry around an egg and pretend it was a baby; looks like they upgraded.

Your tax dollars at work.

Do you feel the same way about Mastiffs? Doberman Pinschers? Boxers?
They’ve all been “bread” to attack and kill human beings.

I wonder if the dog had a chip implant. I know, odd comment, but I refused to have my dogs implanted because I said that if it is a transmitter, it can also be a receiver. Could it be that the electronic doll sent some signal that was picked up by the chip?

I think that when the dog heard the baby start crying, it figured the boy was hurting it. The dog acted on behalf of the baby.

And the news outlets are full of stories about Mastiffs, Doberman Pinschers, Boxers hurting people every day.

Given several generations of normal breading, away from the “killer” concept, pit bulls will make great pets.

I’d really like to see some stats on what percentage of pit bull attacks (and other large dog attacks) are committed by intact males and intact females. I suspect it’s 95% or more. Intact dogs are MUCH more likely to attack under any conditions for hormonal reasons, but there’s also a very strong correlation between people who don’t get their dogs fixed and people who don’t treat or train their dogs properly.

“Like raising a lion cub in your household … cute and fun, but still a primeval predator. Too many generations of breading for fighting to be in the neighborhood of small children.”

Giving all the other breeds of dogs that can provide great companionship without the kind of destructive power that a pit bull packs I really don’t understand how a responsible parent can justify having one of these dogs.

Sure most are perfectly fine animals but why in the world would you risk anything when there are so many other breeds that don’t have the ability or ingrained temperament to rip someone to shreds on a bad day?

The news outlets are filled with stories about whatever dog is currently en vogue with irresponsible people.

In ten years, it’ll be a different breed. Pit bulls will continue being what they’ve always been.

I don’t understand why they have to wait until 10 days to kill the dog. Can’t they thake care of it and then do toxacology tests on tissue? I’m no scientist but this seems strange.

All dogs can be bred out of their normal instincts. Given enough time. The German Shepard comes to mind. It was once considered the most volatile and ruthless dog around, now it is a household pet, safe with children.

It’s to check for rabies. If the dog is infected, it will exhibit signs in ten days.
In theory.

The schools here have a program where students take an electronic “child” as an exercise in how much work a child is. Every time the “child” wimpers you have to address the problem whatever it is. It’s a pretty sobering exercise in how much work childrem are.

The German Shepherd was a sheep dog. Hence the name, shepherd. If it was once perceived as a ruthless killer, it was because if the breed’s popularity around the turn of the century and sensational media reports.

It's effective as a police dog because of it's drive, focus, and willingness to be trained; although a lot of PDs are turning to the Belgian Turverens, since the show people have bred some pretty serious malformations into American German Shepherds.

The news media is the most powerful force in America still it seems, as EVEN Freepers drink the kool aid ...

Same old story every few years ... is a dangerous pet and NO one should own them; we the people can not make reasonable decisions or be trusted to make decisions involving a pet.

Spelling is for nerds!
I only know because I had to get the shots after being bit by a cat; They can test the brain tissue, but I guess the laboratories take a lot longer than ten days to show results.

It takes 10 to 14 days for rabies to show up in a dog that has not been vaccinated..This should tell anyone the owner never had the dog to a vet for shot’s....another dog pays for the mistakes of his human....and just to add, pitbulls have never been breed to attack humans....unless their drug dealers.

Look, we could argue about the volatility of dog species all night. I own two pit bulls, forth generation from their aggressive sires. All I know, my two pits are very, very passive. As a mater of fact, I wish they would grow a set and be a little more aggressive.

I’m sure he’s great. Even though they were originally bred as protection dogs for tax collectors, with a knowledgeable owner they make great family pets.

If I remember correctly, there were rumors going around in the eighties that once they got to a certain age, their brains outgrew their skulls, causing them to ‘snap’ and go on killing sprees. A myth, like that of the pitbulls magical ‘locking jaw’.

We could, but we don’t have to. :-)
If you had spent your dog’s puppyhood training them to be fighters, they probably would be. If their Great great great grand-dogs were aggressive, they were probably either trained that way or were allowed to go to seed, stagnating in their own frustrated aggression and hormones.

Aren’t you grumpy! Please try to remember as age reverts you back to childish endeavors like name-calling, that it isn’t acceptable. Just because you are older than someone doesn’t mean you know more. Some of us spend our time learning new things, not waiting until we’ve survived long enough to use our age as an arguing tool. What a shame that you can’t ever seem to provide anything useful to the conversation.

Ever heard of the phrase “old wives tale”? Age only seems to make some people more confident in their flawed thinking. The others that bother to educate themselves and be humble and accept the fact that they could be wrong are the people that “grow” old, and don’t just end up that way.
