The Race Card, Football, and Me (Rush Fires Back)
Wall Street Journal (Opinion Journal Online) ^ | October 16, 2009 | Rush Limbaugh

Posted on 10/17/2009 7:07:15 AM PDT by truthkeeper

David Checketts, an investor and owner of sports teams, approached me in late May about investing in the St. Louis Rams football franchise. As a football fan, I was intrigued. I invited him to my home where we discussed it further. Even after informing him that some people might try to make an issue of my participation, Mr. Checketts said he didn't much care. I accepted his offer.

It didn't take long before my name was selectively leaked to the media as part of the Checketts investment group. Shortly thereafter, the media elicited comments from the likes of Al Sharpton. In 1998 Mr. Sharpton was found guilty of defamation and ordered to pay $65,000 for falsely accusing a New York prosecutor of rape in the 1987 Tawana Brawley case. He also played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot (he called neighborhood Jews "diamond merchants") and 1995 Freddie's Fashion Mart riot...

Rush says:
These intimidation tactics are working and spreading, and they are a cancer on our society.

Jesse and Al say:

"Limbaugh said that black folks are a cancer on our society."

The only way to stop this slanderous behavior is to make it more painful and costly to do it than to stop. MEMO to Checketts: No Rush no NFL Same to the race exploiters who howl so loudly for profit.

I think Rush was set up on purpose. Soros was part of this investor group. What better way to take Rush down a peg or two, than to invite him to become a part of the investor group (knowing how much he loves football it would be an offer he couldn’t refuse, especially after Checketts assured him he had been vetted [was that a lie?]), then leak his name to the media, have the media get into a tizzy because of things Rush supposedly said, then disinvite him to be a part of the group. Voila! Instant disgrace. Of course, they never think about the unintended consequences of their vile actions and this is going to blow up in their faces - one way or another.

LOL!

Very good, Rush.

These LIARS still have a platform to amplify their lies.

The call to action begins in each and every one of us. The revolution will not be televised.

The lie is the weapon used most often by the criminal.

I’ve been an NFL fan for 40 years and I’ve been willing to overlook the growing criminal element in the league. No more. If the league won’t have Rush, I’m gone. Rush, to me, is an authentic American hero. His critics are vile, blood sucking leeches bent on destroying liberty.

I hope Rush goes after these defamers IN COURT and cleans their collective clocks!

In 1998 Mr. Sharpton was found guilty of defamation and ordered to pay $65,000 for falsely accusing a New York prosecutor of rape in the 1987 Tawana Brawley case.

Rush was Tawana Brawleyed by Sharpton’s [et al] fecal-laced redo of the Brawley incident. It gave him the spotlight before; maybe a few hefty lawsuits will put an end to the positive reinforcement for this loud-mouthed miscreant bottom feeder.

At the very least, this politically correct racist character rape deserves immediate in-your-face street justice: Boycott … Boycott … Boycott …

Excerpted from Wikipedia. Full article with citations available at:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tawana_Brawley_rape_allegations

Tawana Brawley (born 1972) is an African American woman from Wappingers Falls, New York. In 1987, at the age of 15, she received national media attention in the US for accusing six white men of rape, some of whom were police officers. The accusations soon earned her notoriety, which was inflamed by Brawley's advisers Reverend Al Sharpton and attorneys Alton H. Maddox and C. Vernon Mason, public officials, and intense media attention. After hearing evidence, a grand jury concluded in October 1988 that Brawley had not been the victim of a forcible sexual assault and that she herself may have created the appearance of an attack. The New York prosecutor whom Brawley accused as one of her alleged assailants successfully sued Brawley and her three advisers for defamation.

Alton H. Maddox, Jr. was indefinitely suspended by the Appellate Division of the State Supreme Court in Brooklyn on May 21, 1990 after failing to appear before a disciplinary hearing to answer allegations regarding his conduct in the Brawley case.

In 1998, Pagones was awarded $345,000 (he sought $395 million) through a lawsuit for defamation of character that he had brought against Sharpton, Maddox and Mason. The jury found Sharpton liable for making seven defamatory statements about Pagones, Maddox for two and Mason for one. The jury deadlocked on four of the 22 statements over which Pagones had sued and eight statements were found non-defamatory. In a later interview, Pagones said the turmoil by the accusations of Brawley and her advisers had cost him his first marriage and much personal grief.

Pagones had also sued Brawley. She defaulted by not appearing at the trial and the judge ordered her to pay him damages of $185,000. As of 2003, none of the award had been paid. The $65,000 portion of the judgment assigned to Al Sharpton was paid for him in 2001 by supporters, including renowned attorney Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. plus former businessman Earl G. Graves, Jr.

Ya know, just between you and me, ridicule doesn't work on liberals/socialists/democRATs. Why, might you ask grasshopper, well, they have no shame. Communists have no shame. History tells us this, over and over again.

So what did Rush expect? He’s made a career out of pissing off people from the opposite side of the political spectrum, did he not think that they would do anything possible to oppose this? The fact that people came out of the woodwork to oppose this doesn’t surprise me. The fact that he was tossed under the bus by Checketts does. And that’s probably where Limbaugh should direct his ire, not against those who he knew from the beginning would try to keep him from buying into the Rams. Their reaction was accurately predicted to begin with. Checketts is the one who went back on his commitment.

Fact is, it was NBC Sports that went to Jim Irsay for a quote on Rush Limbaugh. Irsay is a Democrat and an Obama supporter.

One wonders why controversial figures should not have ownership what is ultimatley a contoversial game, at least in the sense there is hard-fought, physical competition over an inflated patch of pigskin. Certain folks in NFL circles are pansy-a$$ed when it comes to conflict involving words. Ironic.
