No description of the perp, even though the article suggests that there were plenty of witnesses.

It will be interesting to see who the perp was considering that Storrs, CT is in the middle of nowhere. Not a big crime culture among the bovines.

Geeze. This sucks. This stuff just doesn’t happen up there in the middle of nowhere.
Most on campus crime (aside from underage drinking) is committed by non-students.
It’s weird, I really can’t think of much more to say on this... Just not the Storrs I remember from my days up there.

Sadly, this is par for the course in this community. A modest proposal to increase involvement by the perp's neighbors:
The San Francisco Vigilance Movement has traditionally been portrayed as a positive response to government corruption and rampant crime ... In 1871, at least 18 Chinese-Americans were eventually killed by the mob rampaging through Old Chinatown, after a white businessman was inadvertently caught in the crossfire of a tong battle.

Ur right, I never should have left out Latin Kings...but it was 12:30 am and a fight broke out between TWO groups....not three. My mistake for jumping to conclusions that it was between crips and bloods.....very disrespectful to the Latin Kings....

Yes and no. On most college campuses, most on-campus *violent* crime is committed by non-students. However, the on-campus non-violent crime vastly outnumbers that - you’d be amazed at the amount of drug use and possession, indecent exposure/sexual harassment, DUI’s, petty larcenies, etc that happen on your typical college campus. For the most part, those crimes are ‘under the radar’ because they’re rarely reported, and when they are it’s probably not even going to make the campus paper’s crime blotter. And yes, most of those are committed by college students on most campuses (on spread-out ones like many colleges in NYC, or non-residential campuses, it’s likely that outsiders are responsible for a significant amount of crime).

Dude, your an idiot. From all accounts this was a good kid.
It’s comments like yours that give the DUmmuys and the Al Sharptons of the world a stiffy. Don’t even try and pull the old “He shouldn’t have been out at 12:30 am” crap. How many times at that age were you out at 12:30 am?
Go crawl back under your rock with Robert Byrd, I’m sure you two clowns can keep each other warm!

Yeah. 12:30 AM for a 20 year old is so crazy.
1. He was at a school sponsored dance in the student union in the middle of the most brightly lit area of the county. (pretty much).
2. I’m sure this was the one party on campus without alcohol present.
3. I’m sure this was the only party the athletics department condoned going to.
4. You’re an idiot. A guy DIED.

I agree with all that. I meant "violent crimes." Esp at Storrs; it's an incredibly insular community with NOTHING - no towns, no malls, no theaters, no NOTHING for 20 miles each way. (Which leads to a lot of drinking. someday they'll figure that out)

Jasper Howard always seemed like a fairly articulate and intelligent kid to me. It really is sad that this happened.
My little sister-in-law is a Sophomore at UConn and works for dining services in the cafeteria at the football training center. She told me last night that Howard was always very respectful and polite to everyone. The whole school community has been affected by this.

I’ll actually do something in Howard’s honor for the initial ping to this week’s live thread. Not sure what it will be yet, but I will definitely do that.
