When I called my cable provider to complain that I was not getting the History channel, the clerk told me they would check that. Within less than thirty minutes my set suddenly could get the History Channel. My question is: Can cable providers also discern what programming you watch,w ithout setting a Nielson box in your house?

As far as I know, some fiber optic systems can tell what you watch but most cannot. In any event, it is the Nielson service that sets the ad rates and they are now using the DVR results, but Big Brother is not here--
