The Florida Gators held the No. 1 spot in the first Bowl Championship Series rankings, despite playing a relatively weak schedule and struggling offensively in recent weeks.
The Gators (6-0) had .989 points, giving them a 0.36-point lead over No. 2 Alabama in the standings, released Sunday for the first time this season.

BIG bump for my Cincy Bearcats!<P
Unfortunately, the head coach (Brian Kelly) will depart for Notre Dame after the season to replace Weiss.

Alabama should be number one since Florida escaped with a win against unranked Arkansas. Here’s hoping the Alabama band is practicing “The Tide is High”! I am soooooooooooooo sick of Flori-duh!
Bama jumped Florida for the #1 spot in the AP poll. Bit trivial since they are on course to play each other in the SEC Championship game.
Arkansas should have won yesterdays game. A called back touchdown and 2 bad offical flags. However, Flordia was NOT impressive. NOT AT ALL. Considering the game was IN FL. and their homecoming to boot. Arkansas did far better. It was a very, very exciting game over all.

Bama has been the most impressive team of the unbeatens. Texas has been eaking out wins aginst the likes of TT and OU while FL has not had an impressive game against a true opponent.
Bump for Texas Tech - finally reached the top 25 this year!!
Roll Tide Roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Roll Tide Roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let's go Hawks!
Barack Obama.
Very weird team. Seems they play to the level of their opponent although they do execute Coach Ferentz’s (sp?) philsophy very well. I saw the game against the Cowardly Lions, cowardly becuase PSU plays nobody non-conference, and very impressive.
Alabama has ALWAYS had to fight for our standing.
So, no problem here at my house. It’s life as usual. :-)
It’s a never ending situation....we have to fight liberals the very same way. :-
ROLL TIDE ROLL!!! Go Mark Ingram!!!! Go team!!!
Texas should go unbeaten which will mean an Alabama v. Texas BCS Championship Game.
Probably the cinderella team of 2009?
Yup, as long as the raiders don’t have to travel they’re doing OK. They should do fine in the GalleryFurniture.com bowl.
I think Timmie scared the team, they changed their style, and it didn’t help when Spikes got hurt.
Don’t count the Gators out though. They have plenty of time to get steamed back up.
As a Dolphins fan and Nick Saban despiser, I agree. Alabama should be #1 in the BCS standings. Of course, I also think Miami should be higher than 10, so hey.
Huh?
I'm no Florida fan, but they do play in the SEC.

How’s that #43 passer rating on your QB looking? ;^) OH, and weren’t we playing in Nebraska when we just beat them?
Trouble with just winning out is that the ACC Championship might come down to a name draw. I also think pretty much every other team in the AP and BCS top 10 can win out. Not a good position for UM to be in as far as the national title goes.
But what a turnaround it would be if UM won a national championship this year.
Well...the Horns are 6-0. So I reckon the answer to your question is ‘pretty good’. Hopefully tech won’t have to play UH in whatever pre-Christmas bowl game they’re in :-)
Always classy...
All Phins should be cheering for the Gators this year :)
Agree, agree, agreee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unlike the tech fans who are among the worst, if not THE worst, in college football. Especially when they lose at home.
ROLL TIDE ROLL.....
Popularity contests mean squat. Bring on a limited college playoff.
Your opinion is pathetic. You like your school, I like mine - give it a rest and just enjoy your season.
Doesn't matter much though, they're likely to play each other to decide who plays #2.
Bring on a playoff, this popularity contest is getting stale.
I’ll take Bama over FLA right now. Any takers?
LOL! As is your team. Why don't YOU give it a rest?
As I said before enjoy your season.
OK, you too.
I’m curious to hear your logic on this one.
hoping the gators beat ol bamy in the SEC championship
I fear that Florida and Bama BOTH could lose a game, and BOSIE STATE, having played only ONE ranked team, and who barely beat unranked Tulse this weekend, could end up in the big game..
WE NEED A PLAYOFF SYSTEM.
Everyone knows Barack Ubama is going to be named National Champion after whatever the hell Bowl game is played.
When we won the championship in 2006, our offense stunk up the joint most of the year, our defense carried us, it was only in the SEC Championship and the BCS title game that our offense woke up.
My hope is that UF utilizes Deonte Thompson more, because I see him as the only receiver that gives UF anything close to what Harvin and Murphy gave us last year.
But the bottom line is, we better fix the pass rush, on both sides of the ball. We got sacks on Mallet, but for the most part he had plenty of time. If he just connected on half of his throws, Arkansas wins the game easily.
And we can’t give up six sacks, and every future Gator opponent is studying the film of yesterday’s game, so they better figure things out QUICK.
We haven’t won in Starkville since 1985, so they really better get it figured out.
Imagine if Texas and USC lose yesterday. Florida and Bama are unbeaten going into the SEC title game. There was a very realistic possibility that Florida and Bama would wind up playing each other again for the title, especially in the SEC title game was close.
What? No. I’m hoping Alabama never makes it to the BCS title game in the first place, preferably due to a crushing late-season loss to some jobber team, ala WVU losing to Pitt. And then I’m hoping UM makes it to the BCS title game somehow.
It’ll be tough rolling when the big Felines come to town....
