A petulant Chris Matthews wouldnt talk about MSNBCs recent ratings dip during an interview flogging his fawning essay on the late Sen. Edward Kennedy thats in the November issue of Boston magazine.
Lets just drop all the conversation about my network, the Hardball host huffed the other day. Im not a media critic.
It could be that Matthews got a little hot under the collar because his left-leaning network has been losing viewers.
During the recent third-quarter ratings period, Fox News averaged about 2.26 million total viewers in prime time and was up 2 percent from the same time last year. CNN had 949,000 viewers and was down 30 percent. MSNBC averaged 795,000 viewers and was down 10 percent.
In the coveted 25- to 54-year-old demographic, Fox News averaged 589,000 viewers and was up 5 percent. CNN had 288,000 and was down 39 percent. SNBC had 275,000 and was down 21 percent.
Mediaweek television analyst Marc Berman says Fox News is well above the competition.
Theres bleeding everywhere except Fox News, Berman said. The rich has gotten richer and thats Fox News.
Matthews did, however, weigh in on the feud between rival Fox News and the Obama administration, which has accused the channel of being an arm of the Republican Party and said it shouldnt be treated as a news organization.
My hunch is theyve discovered in their research that the commentators on that network have begun to cut into the independents and that theyre worried that some independents are listening to those voices and believing them, Matthews opined.
As for his essay on Kennedy, Matthews says the glossy mag approached him to write it. The theme of his piece is how the legendary lawmaker triumphed over tragedy, and its the opening essay for the magazines upcoming Kennedy bonanza.

Did Fox loose your resume again Chris?
More like flatulent!!!!
Or other people's tragedy, as the case may be.
MSNBC is run the same way that all the liberal media is run, such as the NYT. It doesn’t matter whether or not anyone watches or reads their product. Ideology trumps ratings. They know that they can always get a government bailout as long as a socialist is in office. The only audience that matters to them is Chairman BHO.
Listening to Chris is like nails on a chalk board, I could ring his neck if I could reach it.
I’ll bet he got a tingly feeling down his leg on that question. Lol!
Lot’s of truth to your post. Your talking about the lowest rated host on one of the lowest rated networks.
There’s no way Chris will say anything against his employer. His job there is on life support as it is.
The guy does an interview and doesn't want to talk about his work? BWWHAHAHAHAHA. What else is there to talk about regarding Matthews?
There was a time I had a lot of respect for Chris Matthews. He was liberal but fair...and not even all that liberal. He was a pretty strong defender of Rush Limbaugh and even hosted Limbaugh’s show once! Somewhere he sold his soul.
I’m reminded of Glen Beck’s little lapdog named “Press”.
Beck: “Isn’t that cute? He just said, ‘Let’s play hardball.”
Reminds me of the Menendez brothers. Murdered both their parents with a shotgun and then asked for leniency because they were orphans.
Awwww...the “thrill” is gone?
I hope he consults a physician for erections lasting longer than four hours.
Many years ago I actually liked the guy, I thought he asked questions that really challenged his guest. In the last few
years he has become intellectually lazy, and he just takes a bunch of cheap shots for a little laugh.
He only asked questions that “challenged” Conservatives. Otherwise, he has ALWAYS pandered to and protected the Left.
We must assume your former philosophy as being that. Being a moderate on this forum is not healthy newbie.
It may last for four years.
