FReepers who have had the flu this year (swine or other) what were your major symptoms?

Well, I've come down with flu like symptoms and it's been 2 days of no fun.

My major symptoms are not what I'd call life-threatening, they are what I'd call annoying. I am experiencing:

1) Major back pain and body aches. Don't look at my back, it hurts. Need advil to lie down. 2) Exhaustion. I want to lie down. I don't care if it hurts.

My minor symptoms are: 1) Minor, not severe ear pain 2) Minor but gone almost immediately sore throat 3) Initial onset of headache, gone 1st night prior to other symptoms 4) Stomach quesiness but still hungry

No fever despite heavy aches, which I imagine are the results of the toxins building up in my system.

Drinking as much juice and vitamin C supplements as possible. Squeeze me and you'll get Florida's finest, it's quite possible I'm being stalked by Anita Byrant.

So what have any of you experience with the bugs out there this year?

Thanks for any info you can share...

I also started taking D-3. I started Vit C with bioflavinoids and Olive Leaf 18% with enzymes too. These two also help build up your immune system.

My little man (age 11) with special conditions (ADHD) started coughing last night- no fever this morning but I put him on 5000IU VitD3 and zinc. Thankfully we are homeschooling

I’m taking 6000IU VitD3, resveratrol, zinc, NAC and Curcumin - and gargling with salt water and drinking lots of hot green tea with ginger

I had a cold (headache, cough, scratchy throat) starting Monday (I think) but knocked it down in 2 days- I HAVE to stay healthy for everyone else!

Back in the early 90s when I worked in a hospital, I had the so-called Asian flu. I think a true flu is all upper respiratory. I missed 5 days of work. I started out with a sore throat and as the day progressed it got worse. I made it home from work and literally crawled to the shower with my clothes on. I was drenched in sweat. I stay in bed. All I remember is not being able to breathe and developed cracked lip.

Our state public health agency sent out a letter a couple of weeks ago, advising physicians not to prescribe Tamiflu. They want it reserved for people requiring hospitalization.

They are not concerned about supply of the drug. They are concerned about developing resistance and want the drug to be effective for the people with life threatening symptoms.

I took the H1N1 flumist last week. I would have preferred to have had the injection but that was being reserved for pregnant women and employees over 50. I had absolutely no symptoms with the nasal vaccination though.

Our oldest son had swine flu just a few weeks ago and exhibited all the symptoms you’ve listed. It started out just with a runny nose, but that’s normal for him with the change in weather. Next was the exhaustion, which we assumed was from the seasonal crud he gets each fall and from being at football practice until 6:00 every day. He still said he was fine to go to school, “it’s just a cold, Mom.” He came home on a Wednesday after football to tell me that one of his best friends, who he also shares a locker with, was out with swine flu. By Saturday afternoon, the full force of the symptoms hit him like a ton of bricks. He then got the body aches (as in, don’t even put that blanket on me because I hurt), headache, lung pain (couldn’t even lay on his left side), and fever (anywhere from 100º-104.1).

His dad took him to the dr on that Saturday (after morning football practice) because he fell asleep in the car before I was out of the parking lot. They didn’t do any specific testing, just went down a symptom checklist and said that since he had more than half of the symptoms, he likely had swine flu. He had xrays on his lungs to check for early onset of pneumonia, which came back positive. They started him on Zithromax to treat the pneumonia to prevent it from getting any worse because the complications of the swine flu and pneumonia can get really bad really quickly. We also had him taking Mucinex 12 hour like clockwork to help keep his lungs open.

The fever broke Sunday morning and as soon as that happened, he felt more or less fine. He was eating normally, didn’t have the body aches, etc.

You are fortunate- a healthy 18 yr old kid here just went from slight cough and fever to ARDS in 4 days - then died from MRSA strep complication

My daughter, 21, came down with similar symptoms. She was almost paralyzed with exhaustion and pain. Fever and chills. Could not stay awake. No real respiratory symptoms. This was nearly two weeks ago and she is up and about now, but still very weak and easily tired. It has nearly ruined her semester as her efforts to study for final exams did not work very well. I regret to say I’m starting to feel some of the same things.

add to this bioperine and curcumin. You can buy them together but I suggest separately so you can vary dosage. They are used for inflammation. OP sounds like inflammation is a problem in the muscles, joints,.......etc..

Also, you can make your own concoction of Theives Oil.

Teslon pearls (RX only) can be given to control coughing...works great, look like vit E gel tabs. Don’t know why more docs don’t use them. I get bronchitis easy and that is what my doc gives me for the severe coughing. My mom broke 2 ribs with that type of heavy coughing.

My son and I both were h1n1 positive. He was sick 24 hours before me...102 temp...grouchy...coughing...loose stools...threw up a couple of times. The next day I got chilled achey, headache, you know the drill. We both went to doctors office. We were diagnosed positive. They treated us with Z-pack and then tamiflu. 5-7 days of flu later we were better. TBH, it wasn’t any worse or better than the seasonal flu we got last year. It just seemed to fill our lungs up a little more.

BTW, we are big time Vit-D3 takers (4000iu a day for me) I think this helped us out in terms of not getting ICU type ill.

At first, extreme sore throat.
Followed in 24 hours or so with practically total blockage of my sinuses, pain (or at least alot of discomfort in my lungs)

Headaches and body aches to the point it made it hard to sleep. Night sweats a couple nights, one night the bed was literally drenched.

Temp peaked last Thurs eve at about 102, my normal temp is about 97.3 or so and anytime it goes above 98 I know I have a mild bug.

I was hungry but barely had the energy to eat/cook, so I stuck to eggs and toast.

Went through about 3 gallons of lemonade.
Think I had a minor bout of pneumonia after the flu was done. Feeling much, much better the last two days or so.

Nasty stuff.

In 94 I had the Asian flu/Bejing flu, which IIRC is another H1N1 variant.

I was IN BED FOR EIGHT DAYS STRAIGHT!
This time is was only four and a half or so.

I would rate that one a nine, this one about a 6

My 5-year-old son came home Tuesday complaining of a headache. His temp shot up to 103. He was pretty much unable to get out of bed all day Tuesday with headache, chills and body aches. He also developed a nasty cough. We alternated Tylenol and Motrin, and his fever broke early Thursday morning. He was fine this morning -- eating like a horse and raring to go.

It hit me and the 2-year-old yesterday afternoon. The onset was scarily fast -- we were both fine in the morning, and by lunch we both had 102-degree fevers, aches and chills. The cough came in, as well.

I can't emphasize how fast this hit, though -- it really was like being hit by a truck.

Started with a sore throat. Never did really run a significant fever. Head & chest congestion, headaches, diarrhea, body aches, extreme fatigue.

For about 2 weeks. It sucked.

I think when I had that Asian flu, that was the sickest I have ever been in my life (I’m in my 50s)

Oh my, that is horrible. So very, very sad.

Yeah, we feel pretty fortunate. When the doctor told us that he also had pneumonia, I was a little worried, because I know this virus can get pretty bad once it gets deep enough into the lungs.

The chest congestion was the worst. It was hard to breathe.

Tylenol Sinus Congestion & Pain (severe formula) saved me. Double the dose to achieve perscription strength. Only take once every 12 hours.

Mucinex did exactly crap for me.

Thank you all! In times like this information and comparitive experience is critical and I know I can always count on FReepers for help when in need!

We have brought my daughter's fever down but will get her into the doctors today. The motrine should wear off by then and we'll get a proper assessment. I'm good if hurting is the worst of it and that's been the majority of it the past two days.

Cheers and prayers up for those still afflicted...
