HALIFAX, Nova Scotia,- An Internet campaign has been started to help a 75-year-old Canadian man burned out of his home to get his dog back from a foster home.
Earl Shadbolt lost his house in Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia, to a fire in April, and the apartment he took while repairs were made wouldn't allow him to keep his terrier-mix dog Willie, The (Halifax) Chronicle-Herald reported Friday.
Shadbolt made arrangements with fellow church member Laura Naugler to board the dog until he could move back in, but things turned nasty in August when he moved back home and asked for his dog back, the newspaper reported.
Naugler reportedly demanded $1,700 for what she described as kenneling fees, and when Shadbolt refused, she allegedly put the dog up for sale to cover costs.
Naugler further defended her actions and told the newspaper Willie "was in love with a neighbor's dog and she thought it was not right to separate them."
Shadbolt has initiated a case in small claims court to retrieve the dog, and a site on the Internet Facebook site has been set up to support his cause, the newspaper said.

Give the man his dog back!
Naugler obviously belongs in a mental hospital.
OMG, give the old man his dog back!!! If there was no agreement that he pay boarding fees beforehand, it’s not very Christian-like to demand them now or hold the dog ransom. Whatever happened to doing a kind deed just for the sake of doing it? Geez louise.
Her church needs to have a talk with her for starters.
Yeah they do. The poor guy probably lost everything he owned in the fire. How can anyone take his dog away from him, the only thing he has left, basically his family? I just went to read the Facebook messages, out of curiosity. I really hope she just caves to public opinion and does the right thing.
Someone should ask her WWJD?

What would John A. Macdonald do? Probably something to do with absorbing a case of Scotch. :)
But seriously, the dog should be taken back by the church elders during services and shown to the congregation at the end of the services with a darn good sermon accompanying it.
Give the man his dog back!
If the only agreement was to care for the animal until he could return to his owner...then give the dog back.
OTH, if the dog needed vet care etc. The old man should have paid for the vet and at least offered to provide food.
In my case, it would not have mattered either way. It would have been an honor to return the dog.
PS. I foster cats for the local shelter until room is either available or they get adopted. I have two wild and crazy kittens right now, who were sick and now are feeling much better. Maybe next week they’ll be ready to go up for adoption. It is my honor to find them good homes.
That’s just evil.
Given that she was a "fellow church member", that was my very first thought as well.
