THAT is not an animal that got “hit” nor is the front of that minivan a vehicle that “hit” an animal at 75mph.

“They like all animals are cute when little. Grown up are mangy and NOT cute.”
The ones I’ve seen out here in the West are large, well fed and look like beautifully groomed German Shepard dogs. Quite the predators.

This is what happens when an ecosystem is put out of balance by humans hunting one animal to extinction or near extinction. There was a time when wolves lived across the entire north American Continent. When humans wiped out the wolf population, there was no other predators to compete with the coyote. So the coyote filled in the niche left by the wolves. Wolves didn’t just compete with the coyotes for prey, they also killed coyotes they found in their territory. Without wolves to keep them in check, the coyote has out bred its habitat and being so adaptable they are now invading suburbia.

FYI the story is real. And in the original article it said they stopped for gas twice. It was 1 AM when they hit the animal. You wouldn't see much in the dark, not on the Nevada Utah border unless there was a full moon. I would guess the coyote was knocked unconscious by the initial impact and spent most of the ride silent and immobile for most of the 8 hours it was trapped. The animal eventually escaped from the animal rehab person who took control after the extrication. If you are a non believer check it out on snopes:
