Cool Hand Luke
Bridge Over the River Kwai
Unforgiven
The Closet
Braveheart
A good Year
Chariots of Fire
Kramer v's Kramer
"Amelie", with Audrey Tautou, on the other hand, I liked. And another great Yann Tiersen soundtrack.
Two actors:
John Wayne
Humphrey Bogart
For the Duke’s movies, Stagecoach, Red River, True Grit, and Rooster Cogburn. There are so many great ones it’s hard to pick just a few.
Same with Bogie. I know you said romance wasn’t an interest, but To Have and Have Not is great, the movie where Bogie and Bacall met and fell in love. Other great ones, The Petrified Forest, The Caine Mutiny, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and The African Queen.
Was “Amelia” really bad? It sure looked boring from the commercials.
Man From Snowy River
A Town Called Alice
The Fifth Element. Wacky Sci-Fi/Action flick with Bruce Willis, Chris Tucker and Milla Jovavich. One of my faves of all time.
I have seen it and it is truly a hoot!
I'm just partial to Buck Henry, Get Smart, What's Up Doc, and the other Buck Henry zaniness. It gets me every time. :0)
If the choice is seeing “Amelia” or cleaning the public toilets in a bus station, get out your brushes.
“Taken” was good, but I had niggling doubts afterwards when realizing (A) most of it happened only because he _happened_ to be at the right place at the right few seconds by sheer dumb luck, and (B) very little is transferrable as a “how-to guide” (hey, if you’re daddy to a little girl you’ll understand). Those qualms aside, it was good.
Lord of the Rings, Band of Brothers, Holes, Fireproof, Bella, Hellboy 2, Pan’s Labyrinth, The Kite Flyer — and maybe some old ones with Humphrey Bogart or Carey Grant.
John Wayne’s best movie, in my opinion: The Shootist.
Bonus: also in the movie are Jimmy Stewart, Lauren Bacall, Ron Howard, John Carradine and others.
Also good is The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, which includes both Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne.
Agree with you that Treasure of the Sierra Madre and The African Queen are awesome. For some reason, I really like the mood of Key Largo.
The last movie that, Lillian Gish, Vincent Price, and Betty Davis ever made.
Also appearing in it is Harry Carey Jr and Anne Sothern
Pure Country :o)
Fireproof. It will make you think more about God and your relationship with him.
It will also help you to step back and look at your spouse in a more constructive way.
If you don't find yourself rolling on the floor laughing--run--do not walk--to the nearest shrink! This is an emergency!
Definitely Primer.
Watch it several times and try to figure out what’s going on.
Also: Memento (starring Guy Pearce and Carrie-Ann Moss)
Lady in White.........a good Halloween movie.
Good choice.
Brotherhood of the Wolf, Impromptu, Lumumba, Farinelli, Pans Labyrinth and Smilia’s Sense of Snow.
