Thanks for killing the planet, dog owners. Well, that's a rough paraphrase of a New Zealand study that claims a medium-size dog leaves a larger ecological footprint than an SUV. In "Time to Eat the Dog? The Real Guide to Sustainable Living," authors Robert and Brenda Vale argue that resources required to feed a dog including the amount of land needed to feed the animals that go into its food give it about twice the eco-footprint of, say, building and fueling a Toyota Land Cruiser. Noting that a cat's pawprint was roughly equivalent to a Volkswagen Golf's, "New Scientist" (www.newscientist.com) asked an environmentalist at the Stockholm Environment Institute in York, U.K., to independently calculate animals' environmental impact, and reported that "his figures tallied almost exactly." The study apparently didn't take into account the emissions of either the SUV or the dogs.

Time to make flaming lib a menu item.
I grew up on a farm; and while a cow can produce a lot of methane; nothing comes close to what my dog can deliver. Truly nasty stuff.
One of my dogs would be insulted, his carbon footprint HAS to equal Al Gore jet trips
Eat more squirrels.
The archetypal commie mao tse tung thought owning pets was decadent, bourgeois and imperialistic.
The heart of this whole attack on pets and pet owners is an undying devotion to that God forsaken communists blood thirsty ideals.
AS is the entirety of the global warming...er...cooling...er...changing, yeah, that’s it, changing environmental illness. If a dog is the equivalent of a H.U.M.V.E.E and should be done away with, then why isn’t the left behind hunting, wiping out the entire populations of deer, buffalo, elk and bear has to be good for the planet if getting rid of dogs is a good idea.
Consistency is the downfall of all liberal thought or more accurately, thoughtless emotional response.
it’s death to them, save the planet kill off anything that breathes. V-2010-2012!
Just try and eat my 76 pound bully! The first sound you hear is her growling, the second sound you hear is me, chambering a round! How much carbon was used in this study? Come one.. how much?
Bark Alert! :)
The main question is “Do you walk the dog or WOK the dog?”
I have cats, but this makes me want to get them a medium to large sized canine friend or maybe 2 for a playmate. See I can’t afford a hummer and I’m worried my carbon foot print isn’t big enough. Although last earth day I did leave all my lights on just for spite. I think this year when they have their little lights off night thing I might take a couple of lamps out on the driveway and leave ‘em on all night.
Well this must explain the fantastic environmental conditions certain dog eating Asian countries have traditionally enjoyed.
Thank you, scientists.
I’ll eat my dogs when these idiots commit suicide to “save the planet”—not until.
Well, I think maybe you hippie M...F.... s should get in your SUVs and come on over here to get my dogs. By the way, did I mention I have a 6 foot deep hole in the back yard that needs some fill? Hmmmmm, step right over here, I think maybe you can help....
In reality, we just let her run around, she stays close. She has a bad reaction to the leash, it scares her & makes her aggressive. So we hike in places where she can be off leash. By golly when a 76 pound bulldog says no, she means it and good luck with otherwise.
To her credit, her carbon foot print is fairly small involving laying in sunbeams in various locations.
