Pundits have thoughts what todays elections really mean. But I think the following is the best take.
The election results in NJ and VA mean that if Corzine gets defeated, the Republicans win a Governors seat. If McDonald in VA wins, the Republicans have another seat. And regardless who wins in NY-23, the outlay in the House of Representatives wont change much one way or the other. Pelosi will still be in full control of that house.
The elections also mean that Republicans can be joyful for a day or two, thinking that things will change in their lives due to these wins. And for Dems not losing all three seats might mean that some on MSNBC will have with what to be happy about.
You get my point. todays elections are about today. not about tomorow or next year.

It’s true that a big win for R’s today won’t change much, for now. It’s just more of an indication of where politics might go in the future. Virginia was a big win for the D’s last year, now it seems to be slipping away, and R’s are hot on their heals in NJ even with an indy in the race.
It’s just nice to see people starting to wake up and seeing the left’s agenda isn’t getting us anywhere but farther in the hole and rejecting it.
It helps to neutralize the leftists in the dem party, I hope.
A big win for Pubbies today, followed by a concentrated effort focused on ethics (i.e., Rangel, Waters, Murtha, et. al.) will lead to a landslide in 2010. The Pubbies need to focus like a lase beam on dem ethics - every day they need to drill this.
Big wins in Virginia and even a small win in heavily blue NJ Govenors race will scare the pants off the blue dog Democrats in D.C. and make life a great deal more difficult for Pelosi and Reed when they try to stick us with Socialist medicine and Environmental voodo (AKA cap and trade).
They might get by on ethics, but I think big spending, big taxing, and huge deficits are main issues that people are starting to figure out actually have consequences that can be seen and felt.
I guess what we might be seeing is that Dems are running out of excuses for being 100x worse on the national debt than the Republicans ever were, even in war time. After all the money spent just this year, it’s had very little impact on our economic picture; and I’m talking about what can be felt by folks, not what some government report says.
Dems had their golden opportunity to improve the economy by hijacking what are traditionally fiscal conservative issues, and they pissed it away along with tons of our money on ideological BS and have nothing to show for it but a huge tax bill with promises of larger ones.
Maybe they are corrupt slush fund managers in the end, but I really want someone to fix the big mess they only made worse.
