In a wide-ranging interview in the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Daily, air force commander Xu Qiliang said it was imperative for the PLA air force to develop offensive and defensive operations in outer space.

"We must build an outer space force that conforms with the needs of our nation's development (and) the demands of the development of the space age."

"Only power can protect peace," the 59-year-old commander said in the interview given to coincide with this month's 60th anniversary of the founding of the PLA air force.

Xu Qiliang is SO naive. All a nation need do is engage its enemies in dialogue, and work out all the little misunderstandings with them, and peace and love will conquer the globe. Ask President Obama.

actually reading the article, I find it hard to disagree with the guy. Of course space will be weaponized, if it isn’t some already.

I’m sure it is. The shuttle program, if nothing else, proved with the repairing of the Hubble that we could go pluck their satellites out of the sky, one by one. No one else can do that... yet.

If it ain't, then we're stupider than I already believe.

Now more than ever....Start growing some Spartans:

Seriously though, we will lose whatever edge we have in space unless we change the direction of the government.

The Chinese know how the world works and they will make it work for them.

"Take the high ground, and hold it!" —Sun Tzu. Whoever controls the high ground controls the battle. We learned that in WWII. Winning the ground war in Europe followed on the heels of winning the air war.

Of course we do. Look at the Whitey House vs. Glen Beck.

We’d better eliminate our space program so we can hit the reset button with the US/China relations. (/sarcasm)

It is almost as if we are handing the reins of destiny to the Chinese along with a box of chocolate.

We need to develop space superiority or it is all over int he long run.

President Obama opposes new weapons development by the US as well as efforts to maintain our existing nuclear arsenal.

The Commander in Chief is AWOL.

An BC-304 is quite the Shovel Ready project, plus it would prevent a brain drain from occurring.

Also F-302s would be better than Raptor fighter.

We would have to build one and give away to the Russians and Chinese to be fair.

We can trade one to the Russians for full control of the Stargate back. The Chinese though...ah they’ll probably wreck the thing on their first mission anyways.
