To make a long story short, I went to the post office to send a package COD and you will never believe what I was told. I could send it, but if I send it COD, I could not insure it. So if the post office black hole eats it in transit, I have to take the loss all by myself, hook, line and sinker!
I argued till I was blue in the face with the Post Master that this was stupid, but he said it was USPS policy and he defended it with a smile.
"That," I replied, "is the reason I do not want government run health care."
That go him off on a jag that this post office policy had nothing to do with health care.
I was again floored that this character was so so stupid as to not realize this was just a prime example of anything the government runs, but I kept my temper and quoted, God forgive me, Nancy Pelois, by saying, "Are you serious?"
will I have to start going out of town to mail anything?
I think I might have gone to FedEx or UPS with the package.
I handled it another way and will mail it regular, insured snailmail when the payment get to me.
Actually, the postmaster makes sense to me (do you know th Postmasters and Postal Employees Union are two different entities?). You want to send a package COD and insure it? how are they supposed to know what to insure it for if you don’t even pay to mail it?
I order some books from Amazon.com. They were to be delivered to my PO box on October 28, but no later than November 2. Guess what?
They have not arrived. I called Amazon and was told the normal pattern was for FedEx to pick up the packages at the warehouse and transport them to the local Post Office for the actual delivery.
I tracked the package and saw it had arrived in Denver, a notice of pending delivery was sent to the local post office in Albuquerque, and the package was loaded and sent to the post office. All this was on October 28. It never arrived in Albuquerque.
So somewhere between Denver and Albuquerque, a non-stop truck transport of about seven hours, the package jumped off the truck and is hiding in the bushes. I called FedEx and asked them if they had a better tracking than what is available on the net. I was told no, just file a claim with the shipper.
So it either was stolen in Denver after being scanned in or was stolen in Albuquerque before being scanned in or is still sitting on a truck somewhere in the Twilight Zone.
There is a reason FedEx is having money problems.
Gadzooks! Here we go again!
Yes, I know the difference but if you think the post office, management or most of the union employees, is nonpolitical and not government loving critters, I have some bridges on Manhattan Island you might like to buy.
And even though the post office is a "Private" corporation, the US Postal Service is still run government style hand in hand with the postal union.
Now, with insurance and confirmation delivery there is a record of when it is mailed, the journey it takes in the system and when it is delivered.*
If it is not delivered after mailing, it is lost. I have had this happen too many times, but that is the price you pay for inexpensive mailing with the USPS.
So there is no chance of me or the person I was mailing it to for fraud. If the package is delivered and the USPS records confirm it (*see above), then how could either of us claim it was lost?
You sound exactly like a Californian...*sigh*
LOL. I actually work for the government, and generally we’re here to help. There are apolitical and yes, conservatives involved in the postal service ... you would be surprised.
Now, as to your question, seems to me that you had several options. Your CHOICE was to go to the Post Office. If you dislike it so much, then why use it? Is it because you did not want to pay up beforehand? Concur on the records confirming it was received, or not, but again - your choice to send it via USPS, your choice to send it not using private mail options.
Actually lived in CA for over 40 years. But I would have asked the same question no matter what service. Sounded to me like he was asking for something for almost nothing.
And nagging the postmaster about government run health insurance is self serving and silly. What does the postmaster have to do with it?
I lived in California one month shy of 60 years.
Bender was pointing out the inefficiency of all federally run and controlled bureaucracies: they all lose buckets of money and all are run remarkably stupidly!
Are you a government worker???
The Post Master would not let me pay for the insurance, delivery confirmation & postage while sending it COD.
Yet your comments above just prove you can lead a idiot to water...
but you cannot make them think.
You truly are a government employee!
Bendy, you said it in spades!
Anyone who thinks a government bureaucracy is better than the private sector is over medicated.
I would like a citizen to name just one government bureaucracy that works!
95% of them should be shut down and closed, forever!!
