Posted on 11/06/2009 2:21:04 PM PST by Saije
In the aftermath of shooting spree at Fort Hood, Texas, that killed 13 people and injured another 30, Dierks Bentley learned that he had a connection to the civilian police officer who stopped the rampage. The singer was featured in a photo with the officer, Kimberly Munley, that made its way to television news shows and the Internet. Bentley met Munley earlier this year during a Fourth of July music festival at the U.S. Army post near Killeen, Texas. Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, opened fire Thursday (Nov. 5) at Fort Hood. Munley was at the scene and shot Hasan in the upper torso, which allowed authorities to apprehend him. Munley was shot in the thighs and wrist. In a Twitter message, Bentley said he managed to contact Munley, who is still being treated at a Killeen-area hospital. Bentley's Twitter message stated, "was able to speak to sgt munley & pass along my prayers for a speedy recovering. she's tough! and couldn't be more nice or humble. real hero."

I have never heard of him — was he the main character in “Long Teatime of the Soul?”
“I have never heard of him.”
Dierks Bentley is a country music singer. He’s fairly well known if you follow that kind of music.
Awww, that is so sweet. How nce it was for him to call her.
I think he had a holistic detective agency.
Dierks Bentley spoke to her, but not her CO?
He had some country music hits. Fun songs and videos. He was touted as one of the “next generation” of country music. I’m sure he’s still writing music, but this is the only video I remember:
All joking aside, this was a pretty stand-up thing for him to do in contacting her.
They could be brother & sister. Strong resemblance.
IIRC he’s got a lot of military connection and is a great supporter of the troops (USO tours to the AOR, etc.). Good guy.
Shouldn’t it be the other way around: “Hero Who Ended Shooting Spree is Dirks Bentley Fan”, or better “Dirks Bentley is Fan of Hero Who Ended Fort Hood Shooting Spree””
Bently had nothing to do with this in any way shape or form and I hope to God he isn’t trying to latch onto this for publicity.
That is sick.
“Bently had nothing to do with this in any way shape or form and I hope to God he isnt trying to latch onto this for publicity.”
I don’t get that impression, I think it’s more he’s being contacted because he’s in this picture that’s been all over the place today.
Thank you...I have been trying to remember that song since I posted upthread. He is a good guy.
Dierks Bentley is a country music singer. Hes fairly well known if you follow that kind of music.
He is also awfully cute. (Don’t worry, I am a woman — old enough to be his mother, too. :-)
Good on him for acknowledging this brave police officer.
Just before she opened fire she got a little bit "sideways"!
Well done soldier!
CMT sure put it in a p-poor light.
If his people had any class at all they’d have kept that private.
He dropped several notches in my book.
Nah you got to understand Dierks and Paisley are New type Artists who talk to their fans through Twitter. Dierks is good people and he's telling the fans that The Sgt. is OK and doing well. He's probably gotten thousands of messages from fans asking if he has heard from her because of the picture and so he contacted her to let the fans know.
Still looks like headline stealing to me. CMT sure could have done a better job.
Was that pic on his sites before the incident? If not, it looks more like I was saying.
“Was that pic on his sites before the incident?”
The photo was on Munley’s Twitter page.
He’s very cute!!
So CMT is screwed up for their poor writing?
If so, I an buy that.
Glad to know who he is.... my first thought seeing the pic this AM was “She can do better than that guy”
The pic was on HER Twitter page and the media piced up on it. Then it hit the Twitter world and went Viral, THEN Dierks tweeted about it AFTER he got asked thousands of times.
Dierks and Paisley are constantly tweeting their fans. I have Twitter set to send selected Tweets to my phone everyday and I get Dierks and Paisleys because they are entertaining. You get a look into all the stuff that goes on during their Tour. They have a running photoshop and prank war going on between them.
So something like this is not out of the ordinary for either of them cuz they constantly mention fans by name. From all the Tweets I have got from either it would be very out of character for either to exploit something like this.
This new Twitter World is different. They get to have a constant running conversation with fans and I have yet to see any of the country artists who abuse it. Big Kenny (of Big and Rich) also is a prolific tweeter and he mentions fans as well and also shares interesting pics and vids of his daily activities. Really cool stuff like a behind the scenes look at a video he shot with Native Americans.
Both are big supporters of our troops and those that serve on our Police Forces and Fire Depts and the EMS.
Do they do stuff like this to promote their careers, most certainly BUT there isn't some suit type going "Tweet this because it will make you look good" its just them and texting phone showing the world they live in when on tour our back stage.
Most of the stuff is very interesting and a major portion is them showing fans they meet. You rarely see a Pic of Paisley on his tweets unless its self effacing same with Dierks. Its always the people he interacts with. This could be anyone from Carrie Underwood to Tina the waitress who brought him his biscuits and gravy and the Dennys they stopped at while in Columbus Ohio.
The only regular pics you ever see of themselves on the Tweets is when they give their Phones to the roadies to take pics of their show while its going on. These pics are a big hit with the fans.
Ok, I’ll buy that. The way the CMT article was worded made me think that Bentley was glomming onto her new found fame in a very sick way.
I’ll back off that opinion now.
Thanks...it’s now free and easy down the road I’ll go!
